2004 996 C4S flywheel

Dear all,

I was just looking for some common sense advice.

My well maintained 996 C4S has done 85K miles and is currently in with the OPC with an oil leak issue.

It drives beautifully, but whilst the gearbox was out I thought I'd have the clutch replaced - OPC says it looks worn; but the flywheel looks fine and they have recommended not to change it.

But - would you replace the flywheel along with the clutch? (I am definitely changing the clutch)

I am in 2 minds. The enthusiast in me says no brainer - it is simply the parts cost as the area is exposed.

On the other hand, it is very expensive and if it doesn't need doing then that money could go on so many other things!

When I had a 996 the PC tried to get me to buy a new flywheel and I said I would look at the one they had taken out before I made up my mind (due to the cost).

There was nothing wrong with it and completely unworn. I stayed with the old one and had no issues at

If the PC says its OK then I would save my money and put the old one back in.
 
I agree with Peter. OPCs will always say replace if it's a definite even if only a slight definite!! So if they say all is okay then go with that. This is a personal opinion. ??
 
I have an 02 C4s which I did have to replace the flywheel on at 88k miles. The springs on the dual mass system had become soft causing a rattle so I had a new OE one fitted by my IPS. The flywheels are made by Sachs or Fuchs so if you really want to save your pennies get a price from Eurocar. But the genuine parts come with a no quibble guarantee......you pays yer money etc
I was in two minds about having a single mass lightweight but opted to play safe which I (sort of) regret sometimes.
