2004 C4S recommended upgrades ?

Ian Hartley

New member
Hi Guys ,

appologies if any one has already touched on this , but I’ve purchased a 2004 C4S and I’m completely new to owning a Porsche.

Any experienced owners out there recomend any upgrades or gadgets I could spend my money on ?

Cheers ian

Keep it standard & enjoy... they're appreciating anyway & no point in spending hundreds of £'s for an extra 20 bhp in my opinion....

Had mine for 8 years, now worth almost what I paid for it..... have added Zunsport Grilles to protect rads & condensers (but still had to replace condensers) & recently replaced rear mufflers with Dansk aftermarket for half the price of OEM.... love the sound & throttle does seem a little more responsive but that could be due to not having 13 years of carbon build up restricting air flow.....

Hi Paul,
Thanks for that, that’s more or less what most have said tbh, may be a exhaust a PSE or something and look after it. thought about some new wheels, but that’s not straight forward I’m finding.

Can you you send me a link to the grills, that’s something that I should look at eh ?

Ian.

Ps, love the car for some reason, it’s not the out n out fastest car out there but it draws me in for some reason

Zunsport grilles are a good idea: https://www.zunsport.com/en/porsche-grilles/porsche-996-turbo-c4s-outer-grille-set
I had the black grilles as I thought the silver finish was too blingy. A matter of personal taste. If you like the silver then go for them. Either finish will keep leaves and road debris from collecting in and around the aircon condensers and the radiators. Use my loyalty card number 1006 35091 to get a 15% discount on the list price (anyone reading this is welcome to do the same).

I had Dansk switchable silencers fitted this year to replace my old rusty/split seams original Porsche sports exhaust silencers. Work fine using the original dashboard switch. Much cheaper than the Porsche replacements and sound just as great (maybe even better).

Thought it may be worth mentioning that there is a detailed guide here on the forum on fabricating / shaping and fitting grilles as an alternative option. Hope this helps, John.

Hi Ian, as Jerry has already said, Zunsport Grilles are excellent quality & in my opinion make the car look a bit 'beefier'........
Mine aren't a perfect fit but offer much more protection than the slatted standard OE.

I have purchased one to fit my newly purchased Qashqai as it has similar exposed cooling parts.

At 320 bhp they are nowhere near the fastest out there but it has been said the 4S is the 'prettiest' 911, I think it has something to do with the wrap around reflector, something the 993's had....

Re your wheels, I trust you have the 'turbo' wheels?
what's wrong with yours?
can't you just get them refurbed?
18 inch wheels, dipped, then powder coated should cost you somewhere between £75 to £90 per wheel.
Excel Wheels come to you & exchange but there is plenty out there to choose from.....

Morning,

The car is in good nick throughout tbh the wheels too.
The turbo wheels I’m assuming are the big five spoke ones , if so then yes.
I just fancied a finer 10 spoke wheel, stick to 18” I’ve been told for a better overall ride and driveability , but, there doesn’t seem to be a great choice when I try to get the right size n offset etc.

Remapping seems to bring a mixed reaction.

I’m sure when I get to a few meets people will point me in the right direction when seeing what others have done

Appreciate the comments.....

Hi Ian,

I had my grilles done at Revolution Porsche in Brighouse about a fortnight ago. They were made to fit the bumper, not the Zunsport ones. They look great and cost about £240. Worth protecting your rads and condensers as had to have both mine replaced at the same time(about £800[:(])

Good evening gents , I'm thinking of purchasing these Zunsport front grills as I too want to protect the radiators , my grills are a little shabby so my bumper would bennifit from new ones.

Only thing is I'm really trying to keep the car as close to "Stock" as possible and I don't want to spoil the front end looks of the car , I've seven the pictures on the website but they aren't all that clear , has anyone got a photo of these on their car ? ..... I'd just like another look from various angles before I buy them on the Net.

I looked at the zunsport grills, but when I had to have my condensers replaced Northway added some mesh grills in front of them but still about a hands depth behind the front of the bumper. Given that they had the front off to do the condensers their mesh grills have been done on the back of the bumper (if that makes sense). I still get leaves in the intakes, but not up against the condensers, so can just slide my hand in and pull all of them out - which happens most days at the moment courtesy of the 5 oak trees out front :-(

The grills are therefore pretty much invisible unless you get down and look directly into the intake, whereas the zunsport are obviously there.

Here is an eye level view of the grill behind the bumper - pretty hard to spot unless you're looking for it.

As previous post, I mounted mine behind the vents. I glued plastic bolts to the inner face with some meshing bought on ebay. No corrosion and the mounts are invisible from the outside and easily removed. Being dark blue I wanted a contrast and chose aluminum effect. The C4S/Turbo spoiler is more of a statement and black mesh may look better styling wise.

On a practical note I don't get a forest of leaves within the intakes.
