hi there..just a quick question to anyone with the above, what fuel do you use(octane wise) and do you notice any difference when using lower octanes ?

I am sure to get flamed for daring to mention "Sainsburys" and "cheapest U/Leaded" in the same sentence but this is my experience. I use Sainsburys Unleaded, that is the cheapest U/L in my Cayman S and it does the same average full tank to full tank MPG as when I tried a tank of their finest 98 Super. I did not notice any performance difference but it could have been a touch more responsive but as its got loads of power its is academic to me.
My OPC said they use the cheapest UL in all their cars and see no reaosn to go to the Super 98 Oct.

Now wait to see all the BP and Shell Super 100 Oct fans post their opposite experience to follow.............

Never put anything but optimax/ v power in mine. I once used tesco 99 once in my previous 986, got way less mpg. On other cars I've always averaged 10% mpg more on superthan normal unleaded. We even use super unleaded in the fiat panda but that needs every extra horse power it can muster!

Only ever used Shell V-Power in my 987S, but my previous car was an Audi TTS, which I had 'chipped' and optimised for V-Power by Revo. They strongly recommended the fuel and said it made a big difference. In conjunction with the ECU programme, I also boosted fuel economy by 10% too. I'll do the same with my current car once the warranty expires too, but being non-turbo, the performance impact will be a lot less. [:)]

3.2S 986 - always use Tesco or Morrison cheap unleaded and still get 30+ driving semi sensibly.

Tried higher octane briefly, just for the crack- noticed no difference in performance or economy

BP dropped their Ultimate 102 unleaded in March of this year. [:(]

I also believe V-Power is 99RON with the only other 99RON UK petrol now being Tesco's MOMENTUM99 [8|]

I tend to use the V Power or other premium fuels when not passing a Shell station. I averaged about 25mpg out of the previous 986 S and didn't notice any change when using basic unleaded.

Average about 21.5mpg from my Cayman S and put that down to the extra power and cubic capacity. Again I don't notice any difference with basic unleaded.

There has been quite a bit of corresponding on the forum on this matter, and my reading of the matter is the Jury is still out. Plenty reckon basic unleaded is all that is needed and no difference in MPG or performance with V Power etc, plenty report improved performance and MPG.

You pays your money, press the loud pedal and listen to the beast behind growl and the tank sort of empties as you whizz along enjoying yourself!
