2006 4.5 Turbo S - good idea?

Currently looking for a larger car with 4x4 and have seen a few Turbo-S Cayenes (2005-07) and for the amount of car you get these seem like quite a bargain. Understand MPG will be horrendous, but won't be doing crazy mileage, so not too worried.

Is this a good idea? Any good buying guides or advice?

Thanks

I've just bought a Cayennes S of that vintage - lovely car with low miles. Things my PC Service Manager told me to look out for were...

Coolant pipes - the ones which run front to back down the "V". These should be upgraded to aluminium from the plastic ones which split!
Air suspension pumps/relay - they pack up
Heavy cars which are heavy on tyres/brakes/disks
Dampness in the passenger footwell
Water pump noisy
Drive belt
Electric seats - make sure all functions work as the cables are close to the underneath of the seat and can get damaged.

There's a few for starters but largely he said they are great cars and, as you say, a lot of car for the money. FWIW, he also said the turbo is more economical than the "S"!! It is a good idea, btw!

As the above, also if I remember rightly the propshaft is an issue? Stand to be corrected on that one.

I recently sold a 2003 Turbo and I loved driving it. Really missing it, but it had to go to free up some cash :(

The coil packs tend to need replacing after 40 or 50k miles.

I'd be surprised if a Turbo S averages 19mpg which is what my S used to do.

No wonder you moved, Alan, need the room for all these Porsches [8D]

You know those plastic coolant pipes.....one split before Christmas with the river of pink water.... now sporting nice, new aluminium ones. Covered by the 6 month warranty I got with the car, thankfully!
