2006 997 C4S - memory seat issue

Hello,

This is my first post in these forums (or any Porsche forum, for that matter), so I thought I would quickly introduce myself (and then go on to ask a question!).

I am resident in Jersey, Channel Islands and have dreamt of owning a 911 since I first learnt to drive. I have owned a 2003 Boxster for the last three years, which I loved, but, last weekend, the 911 dream finally came true. I have bought an immaculate 2006 997 C4S (24km) (with pretty much every optional extra - the previous owner appears to have spared no expense) and I am delighted with it.

Whilst trying to avoid rambling on, this was a massive deal for me (I have always viewed acquiring a 911 as more involved than simply owning a car). My dream 911 is the 993 Turbo, but, it is unlikely I will ever be able to afford a decent example of that. The 997 C4S is my next favourite edition and, it follows, that I am quite obsessed about making sure everything works as it should.

Having read the relevant section of the manual (about 20 times) and browsed various forums, I am still unable to cause my driver seat to remember the correct position when I unlock the car. Whenever I unlock it (using the zapper), the seat goes all the way back, which, given that I am 5'8", is not ideal. I have tried setting the memory on buttons "KEY 1", "2" and "3", but to no avail. I have even removed the memory button unit from the door to double check the wiring is intact (which it is).

Turning the key (so the electrics come on), putting the seat in the correct position, holding 'memory' and then pressing "KEY 1" (or "2" or "3) does not appear to be storing anything. Is this regrettably one for the garage?

Many thanks!

Hello,

Welcome to the forum and 997 ownership. You would benefit by not being anonymous on this forum.

The 3 buttons are M - Memory 1- Key button, 2, 3 - Person buttons

Individual seat and door mirror settings can be stored and recalled for the driver's position, but you cannot store the position of the side bolsters
of the adaptive sports seat. Further individual setting options are available in vehicles with the Sport Chrono Package Plus.

1. Switch on ignition and reverse gear must not be engaged.
2. Set the desired seat and door-mirror positions.
3. Keep memory button M depressed and also press person button 2 or 3 until an audible signal confirms that the position has been stored.

Individual settings are now stored under the relevant person button. To recall the seating position, the vehicle must be stationary. Switch on the ignition or
open the driver's door. 2. Press person button until the seat reaches its resting position.

Operating with the remote control of the vehicle key

Each remote control (up to six) can be assigned an individual seat and door mirror position.
The stored seat and door mirror position is set automatically when the vehicle is unlocked using the corresponding remote control.

Storing seat position
1. Switch the ignition on with the relevant car key. Do not select reverse gear.
2. Set the desired seat and door-mirror positions.
3. Keep memory button M depressed simultaneously with key button 1 until an audible signal confirms the position is stored.

The setting is now assigned to this particular remote control and key button.

Repeat the process for the second key.

NOTE: It is necessary to wait for at least 15 seconds between locking and unlocking the door.

You can also store the n/s door mirror as a parking when reverse gear is selected if you wish.

Recalling seat position

Unlock the locked vehicle or the luggage compartment with the remote control. The stored seat position will be automatically recovered.
It can also be set by using the key to switch on the ignition.

If no seat position has been assigned to a remote control, the key button will not work.

Automatic seat adjustment can be interrupted immediately: by switching on the ignition, by pressing the central locking button, by pressing any memory or seat adjustment
button.

Clearing the stored seat position

Switch the ignition on with the relevant car key. Press memory button twice and key button once consecutively.

Give all that try and good luck. [;)]

Clive.

Hi Clive,

Many thanks for that information (which I think more or less mirrors the manual instructions).

I didn't realise that there was supposed to be an audible signal, however. I will simultaneously hold down the memory button with button 1 and hopefully I will hear something.

[EDIT] - I held down the buttons for about a minute and there was no audible signal, nor did the memory retain my settings. Perhaps it is the memory unit itself. I am going to have the car serviced in the next few weeks, so I will raise it with the specialist. *Sigh*

Many thanks,

Simon

Simon,

Working on button 2, clear the memory as described previously.

Then switch ignition on, set the seat position, hold down the M and 2 buttons simultaneously until you hear the tone. Move the seat to another position. Leave it for a minute or so then press button 2. The seat should now return to its previous position. If that happens, do the same with button 3. If all this is aright, the memory is storing OK. Now try it again with Button 1. If this doesn't work, the problem is with the remote. Try it with the other key too.
If you still can't get any of it working, there's a problem with the memory module somewhere, so go back to the dealer.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Clive.

Clive,

Thanks for your advice but, unfortunately the settings do not appear to be being stored. That being said, as mentioned I had the car serviced and the mechanic (who I did not manage to see in person as I picked up the car after 18:00) said the memory functions were working normally.

I have therefore concluded that the problem is me! In the circumstances, could I ask whether anyone would be kind enough to video the process they follow in their 997 so I can replicate it? It must be something fundamental that I am overlooking. Failing that, I will try and find the time to take the car back to the garage and get them to set it for me.

Many thanks,

Simon
