2006 997 C4S - new clutch question!

A few times recently, I've noticed that when changing gear the revs briefly rise as if the gear is not properly engaged, before the car accelerates normally.

The car is a 2006 C4S which is coming up to 40k miles, so I assume that this is 'classic' clutch slippage which therefore needs replacing - I've never owned a car this long before, so have never experienced these symptoms. It seems that 40k miles is about par for the course?

As the car is under Porsche warranty, I'll probably take it to my local OPC to resolve, but I wondered what I should expect it to cost?

After doing a search it would appear that parts should be around £650less PCGB discount with £720 labour, does that sound about right?

Also, as the problem has only just started to occur, how much leeway do I have before it is likely to become an urgent repair requirement rather than just a minor inconvenience, as currently? (The car is my daily driver). I'm told that their is a risk of damaging / excvess wear on the flywheel which would signifcantly increase costs?!

Finally, if they are replacing the clutch, is there anything worth having done at the same time (The car is about 6 months from it's 6-year service)?

Cheers

:)

Didnt know clutches were covered by warranty. Thought they were an automatic wear-and-tear item.

You misunderstand - I thought the terms of the new warranty restricted the extent to which things could be replaced by non-OPC garages...?

Definitely sooner rather than later. As for the price I am not 100% on the 997 price but I paid 1200 for clutch, flywheel, rms and ims on a 2005 996 c4s all in
at our local OPC.

porsche keep reminding me to have my plugs changed every 40k miles just £150 - £220 but I never have time.
I am sure its every 40k miles.

Every 4 years or every 40k miles, I think!

(mine were done after 4 years at the main service!)

Thought you knew automatics don't have clutches John![:D]

Simon, as Paul says if the clutch is being changed with an 06 car probably worth changing the flywheel and getting them to look at the seals at the same time.

Thanks for the advice - if they see any issues with the seals then I'm sure they will sort them out under warranty, but I will mention this to them.

The quote so far (£1,280) doesn't include the flywheel - is this an expensive extra?!

Thanks

I certainly would be having it changed.

I would make a judgement yourself when they have the flywheel off. It is a very low wearing item and IMHO I doubt it would need changing at all. The friction plate is the sacrificial item that causes the slip you experience.

Plus the aditional labour next time.... [&:]

Oh yes, i understand that, what I'm not clear on I'd whether this would normally be replaced every say 50k miles (in which case it is due fairly soon) or whether flywheels typically last for 10+ years in which case it is likely to be barely 50% worn and will last way beyond my expected ownership of the car..!

I'm going to trust my OPC to advise accordingly when they have taken things apart to replace the clutch. They didn't mention the flywheel when the originally priced the clutch replacement, so that would suggest they font anticipate it being necessary to change the flywheel at this stage!

Thanks
