2006 Tip Stutter under accelleration

Hi guys my first post here in Cayman land as the car has never had any issues. Noticed the car has now started to stutter under acceleration (as though the power is coming in waves) this mainly occurs in 3rd 4th and 5th gears. I try to put my foot down and get through the flat spot for want of words but it doesn't seem to work. any ideas?

Cars is a 46k mile 2.7 Guards red Tiptronic.

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian, Is it just a flat-spot at a certain engine speed or is the engine misfiring? If the latter then it's most likely plug or coil-pack related. Check to see if you get the problem in neutral as well as under load. It may be best to get a diagnostic check either at a PC or Porsche Indy to see if any error codes are thrown up. Any faulty components can then be identified and replaced. Jeff

Thanks Jeff its only noticeable on the later gears under a bit of load tbh. I think a visit to an indy due. Ian re

A good idea Ian, I think. There's so much electronic jiggery-pokery in modern engines that a diagnostic check is the easiest - and usually the cheapest - starting point. If not the plugs or coil-packs, it could be a dirty MAF sensor, a faulty throttle pedal or air-oil separator, a problem with one of the flap valves in the intake resonance manifold or maybe a fault in the VarioCam system - who knows? Hopefully your Indy will sort you out. Keep us posted on progress. Jeff

Ian, having had the coil packs go on my own car it did bring up a fault on the dash have you had such an alarm yet? As Jeff says it can be from anyof the possible causes he listed and maybe others. A diagnostic should reveal the problem.
