2007 Gen 1 997 C4S Tiptronic

Hi

I'm thinking about replacing my 2003 Boxster 2.7 for a 2007 Gen 1 997 C4S Tiptronic.

What I'd like to know is what's Tiptronic like on a C4S?

I've always driven manuals but when I recently had a Panamera Tiptronic as a courtesy car it got me thinking, as I was really impressed with it and thought it might be more suitable due to doing apporx 5000 miles per year and mainly town and dual carriagway driving.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi David,

My last two cars have been Tiptronic, mainly because I live in a busy town and drive everyday.

You will find two corners here. Ones that love the Tip and others that prefer Manuals.

The tip for me is great as I have the best of both worlds. Either moving slowly in traffic or driving 'in spirited' fashion on the weekends.

I suspect your Panny was PDK and not Tiptronic (or do they make them with either?). A world of difference. Personally I wouldn't touch Tip but PDK, that's another matter![;)] To get a PDK 997 you would need to go Gen 2 - 2008 onwards.

If the Panny had 7 gears with buttons or paddle-shift on the steering wheel, it was definitely PDK, which is fabulous if your budget allows, but as tscaptain has said it will need to be Gen 2, otherwise manual will be your best bet for your 911 sports car. [;)]

Thank you for your replies.

Ideally I'd like a Gen 2 and that's what I've been looking for; however, finding the right colour and spec is harder than I thought.

The Gen 1 I've seen is the perfect colour and spec, other than not being manual but at the back of my mind the Tip seems to make sense taking into account it will be used daily and mostly around town, as well as being kept for the long term (had the Boxster for 9 yesrs).

Deciding is never easy!!

Horses for courses naturally, but Tip would certainly rule it out for me.

There are currently over 500 997's being advertised on Pistonheads, so I'm surprised there isn't something suitable amongst those.

Regards,

Clive.
