2009 Cayman S Front Oil Seal

Hello,

Took my Cayman S into Porsche Centre for its major device and they said it had a small oil leak front the Front Oil Seal; to replace it would cost over 2k because they would have to remove the engine.
That was a year ago I've been monitoring the oil level and it's still on 3/4. When I took it for its MOT I had a look underneath and there was a slight smearing of oil on the pan but I couldn't see any oil leaking from the front.
So what I'm asking is it the pan or the front seal that's leaking and if it is the front seal does the engine need to be removed?

Thanks

David,

I think you'd be better off posting this in the Cayman section. Maybe one of the Moderators can do this.

Sorry I can't help with your query about pan vs oil seal leak but I would think that since the leakage is very minor it's best left alone for the time being. Just keep monitoring it - I wouldn't be too concerned until such time as the leak starts getting more serious i.e. oil pooling on the garage floor.

The PCs are always very expensive for service and repairs so I'd get an alternative quote from a recognised Indie in your area.

Jeff
