Hi 987'ers

OPC Silverstone just quoted £1k for replace glass for rear window heating element failure on my 2010 987.2 CS

Has anyone else had this problem, and if so has anyone a cheaper way of fixing. At the OPC cost I am not really fussed to fix it; with the tinted glass it can be difficult to see out the back anyway.

Many thanks for any good ideas.

Bob

Hi Bob.

Have you considered approaching your insurer on the basis of making a windscreen claim? Appreciate it’s the back window and the issue isn’t the typical chip / crack but I know of a case (but only one….) where a pal successfully claimed for broken down screen heating on his windscreen cover as a safety issue. Just a thought. Cheers.

Bob, has the whole screen failed, or just part? I am wondering if there could be a connection fault which might be fixable?

Hi John

Unfortunately, no element comes on at all. Fuse/relays are OK. According to OPC the elements have failed in a number of places They kindly left some marker pen marks on the glass to indicate where but i couldn't see anything wrong. Cars coming up to 12 years, i would be fairly sure this would not be an isolated case, so am assuming that there would be a number of other 987'ers that have had the same problem, and perhaps a less expensive solution.

Thanks.

I successfully used that stuff decades ago. It helps to have a magnifying glass to inspect the element and locate the breaks.

cheers. Feedback from Halfords reviews shows they must still have the same decades old stock - majority are very bad reviews. I found a replacement second hand rear door for same colour for a few hundred, which may be a better way forward, do entire door is colour spot on , or reuse glass.
