2012 Cayenne Diesel - door light cover

Hi, before I have to make the 3 hour journey to my dealer anyone got any insight into how the cover on the light (underside of drivers door) fits? It fell off when I opened the door in a car park yesterday :( not the most impressive of things for others to see bits falling off a 6 month old Porsche!

I know if I call the dealer they'll want me to 'drop in' so they can take a look, but that's a full day lost (3 hours there, three hours back).

Anyone had anything similar happen? Despite all my best efforts I can't get it to clip back in, there's no sign of any locating lugs or clips - are these things glued on?? I don't want to glue it back in case I ever have to change the bulb.

Thanks,

Colin

Just had a look at mine and it appears that the cover is hinged at the bottom of the plastic unit. I popped the cover open and it hangs down on small plastic hinges, and clicks back up in place. I didn't try and remove it for fear of achieving a similar breakage! I suspect it will need a new unit so probably worth glueing the offending article in until your next planned visit.

Hi Peter,
thanks for the fast reply, looks like the hinges have broken off then, will take your advice and tape it up until the next service visit or need to travel to Aberdeen.
Cheers, Colin

Colin,

Out of interest where do you live? 3 hours from Aberdeen sounds a long way from anywhere but at least you must have empty roads to play with!

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike

about 20 miles west of Inverness and yes, lots of empty roads [:)] unfortunately the A96 across to Aberdeen isn't one of them, 117 miles but lots of 30mph zones and not many dual carriageways or overtaking areas. If you get stuck behind heavy goods it can be painful []

The empty roads and my Cayman R lead to much motoring pleasure at weekends......

Cheers, Colin

Ooooh I'd avoid the A96 as well Colin, sooner go through the Highlands via Dufftown and Carrbridge. Maybe not the worlds best road but more entertaining than the A96.

Just had self same thing happen to mine. I removed the light bulb holder, which came out quite easily. I removed the electrical plug. I then offered the perspex cover to the holder and they clipped back together with no problem. I think the thing is you will not be able to achieve this without removing the holder as there is not enough pressure you can apply whilst the holder is still in the door. I doubt very much the lugs are broken - they are not at all flimsy. Just reinserted the complete assembly back in the door after reconnecting the electrical connection and hey presto.

Hi Peter, thanks for your info, I'll take a look - in fairness I didn't look if I could take out the fitting to clip the lens back, good call.
Cheers, Colin
