2012 m/y towing electrics problem

Hi All, just bought a 2011 (2012 m/y) Cayenne Diesel and got an electrically deployable towbar fitted. On collecting the vehicle I was dismayed to be told that it cannot run the electrics in a caravan (fridge, battery charge etc) that UK twin electrics do. I expected an 11 pin DIN plug but also expected to be able to connect my adaptor to it to run the 2 x 7 pins for the towing electrics and caravan electrics. I am told that Porsche tow electrics cannot support the supply to the caravan, only the towed vehicle lights.

Anyone else come across this problem and found a solution? Rather disappointed to upgrade my trusty old Touareg to the Cayenne and spend a lot of dosh on the electric towbar to find it won't do the job! :(

Chris.

There must be a way ..
I would first try a VW agent and ask .
Then one of the top caravan tow specilists.
You might then go onto the american websites as they are trailer mad .
If all else fails you can borrow my Defender......

That's a good idea. I have a VW dealer just down the road - I'll call in and ask them. Also post on the Touareg forum to see if they know of the problem.

Keep the Defender on standby for me though....

Cheers,
Chris.

Checked out the VW Treg website and yep, it's a well known problem with a difficult and no doubt expensive solution, not from Nelson (Maindealer!) but from indie towbar specialists. Suggestion is to ask Nelson for a refund of the labour element and go to specialist (or buy a generator?).

Try the USA route .There must be many on the THIS Forum with US connections that may be able to help
if you do not get any joy yourself via websites.

What is the real root of the problem ?Could it be solved by an additional battery ?
I know from bitter experience my Kn battery runs down very easily and is kept on
constant charge. The last time it was serviced they did not shut the boot properly
and battery was flat when i collected the car,Even their jump start struggled ....
