2016 Macan S Diesel. Heavy on steering.

Just bought one of the above. Low mileage, lovely car, I am detailing it to death at the moment and it is looking mint.
One thing I have noticed is that the steering seems to be on the heavy side when manoeuvring at slow speeds and making turns into junctions and traffic lights etc.
Wheels are 21” turbo type with Continental tyres.

Has anyone else found the same? Can the steering be ‘lightened’ at all?
Thinking of increasing front tyre pressures to max recommended to see if that helps.
Any input gratefully accepted.
Chris

Chris, yes there is a software upgrade that is called Power steering plus, this lightens the steering up on speeds up to 25mph. Any good Porsche indie should be able to sort it. My car came with it when I bought it, so was factory fitted, my car is 2017. Look forward to seeing your new steed!

From memory, I believe Power Steering Plus can be disabled if it was originally fitted, but not the other way round.

Regards,

Clive

That’s good to know boys. Will look into it. Must admit that the steering is giving my hands some pain at the mo!!

I recently bought a new Cayenne S and noticed that the steering was quite heavy at low speeds. I enquired with my local OPC if I could have add Power Steering Plus as I though it may just be a software upgrade but was told that it was not possible as it required physical parts. Not sure if it is the same for Macans.

Have found out that it is probably the battery that is not up to the job at 9yrs old so electric power steering and other functions are suffering as a result. On holiday shortly so it will have a new battery in April sometime so hopefully it should cure the faults.
I will report back with the results.
Cheers, Chris

I’ll look forward to your findings.
We just picked up a 2018 Macan 2.0 litre today and did find the steering to be on the heavy side on slow manoeuvres and tight turns.
Our previous 2017 Macan SD we bought new and I specced power steering plus so noticed it more so.
My 2017 718 has power steering plus and it definitely helps.
Must admit I thought it was a software adjustment?

Yes I will wait until the new battery is fitted which should help. It should cure the multiple other warnings as well hopefully.
If steering is still too heavy I will get the PSplus installed. Can’t see why standard steering shouldn’t be ok though. Any other car we have had or have now is fine.
Unless you are talking about cars we used to have 40/50 yrs ago- that’s a different story!!😁
