If I am, I’ll be embracing the technology by zooming around (at 94) in the fastest leccy/whatever car that’s around then [8D], proving that your age is all in the mind.
As for collectible Ferrari owners, well they’re nearly all 94 already (apart from Chris Evans [])
Oh, and if I live to that year, the 993 will still be with me (I’ll need a large plot when I pop my clogs)

I don't think I misread it. No NEW petrol or diesel car sales in 2040 as you state but BBC news suggests no petrol or diesels in 2050, which I assume means just that.
Porsche already have several Hybrid models in the range and the next generation 911 (i.e. 992) will include a petrol hybrid model...
Can you provide a link? I haven't seen that anywhere in clear terms. It stands to reason that if the 2040 ban actually goes into effect that by 2050 a very large percentage of cars on the road won't be diesel or petrol powered but I can't find a clear statement that bans them outright.harry said:I don't think I misread it. When I stop on the M6 Toll services and see the two L supply points being used the same cars are there 45 minutes later or longer. Try doing that at a petrol station now and there would be chaos.
Technology will improve I accept that, but will it be done in time.
Just imagine the rows of tightly packed terraced house all with their cars plugged into their home or outside charges. Cables will be all over the pavement, kids, disability scooters and pram users will have real difficulty getting over them all.
There can be only one reasonable solution. All car parking spaces, roadside and dedicated, should have underfloor chargers and cars should be capable of induction charging without the need for cable. Perhaps even on A roads and motorways they could have cables installed under the tarmac so car can be charged by induction as they move. But then again at the painfully slow rate that our road contractor take (M60 / M6) we would need another 100 years to get that job done! Just saying.
I'm with you Paul - in 1940 I'll be 90 or on the mantelpiece in a jar - so I think this is one for the younger ones to get engaged with.
Just my ha'p'orth. I'll likely be the first in the queue for a 911h !

The UK needs to lose it's obsession with legislating and let natural evolution take its course. Don't worry about your car, they're not going to force people to scrap their "classics". I mean, try telling some city bloke to scrap his 250 Cali worth several million? You're likely to end up in the Thames...
