2100 rpm - no more rattles

Good news for those who have been suffering from the annoying (but apparently harmless) buzzing / rattling noise at 2100 rpm (http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=138279&mpage=1&key=2100) - the fix is now available.

I had mine sorted on Friday, and I'm pleased to report it seems to have done the trick. I believe they changed a part within the oil pump, but I'm still waiting for the paperwork which will hopefully tell me exactly what's been done. I'll post more info if/when I get it.

So is this going to be a general recall?

I would expect a call from the dealer anyway as mine has been reported with this feature.

So far, in the US, it is not a recall item. The repair is done if a customer complains about the noise. The 2 mechanics I spoke to at my dealer did not even know about the bulletin. I think because it does not get very cold where I live, or the bulletin is so new. I asked them to search the computer for such a bulletin and they found it.
I forgot to add, there is an identical bulletin for the Cayman S. I did not ask if there is one for the 997.

I finally got hold of the invoice for the warranty work. It shows an item to "R+R pressure control valve", which has a reference number that ties in with the repair bulletin that Tool Pants posted. But it also has a separate item to carry out Warranty Recall Campaign W574 - I have no idea whether that's the same thing or some other recall that they sorted out whilst they had the car. Anyone recognise that number?

Now booked in to get the brake master cylinder and the water pump replaced. I thought these cars were supposed to be well made [&o]

So new cars built in the last few weeks should not suffer from the rattle having already had this modification done? Great that it has been sorted.

Out of those that have reported this rattle to their dealer has anyone had a call from them yet to offer the fix?

I've not.

Apparently the recall (W574) is to fit washers to the exhaust clamps to prevent heat related rattles. So the original oil pressure valve rattle is not a recall item. Perhaps this affects whether the OPCs contact customers to have it sorted? I chased the OPC to get mine done, not the other way around.

OPC Reading do know about the rattle. Mine was checked over by them last November and they diagnosed it as the 2100 rattle. Push them again or just book your car in with a fault and explain when it occurs.

Had mine fixed as well. Have to say though, although the "rattle" has significantly diminished, I don't think it has gone away completely. Or is this me being paranoid? Not sure yet; I need to get a passenger with sensitive ears to give me an opinion! I'd be interested to hear how others who have had this problem fixed get on.

While the car was in, I was told they also undertook 2 workshop items; replacing exhuaust washers and replacing front bonnet catch.

Regards,
Sean.
