215/45 and 245/40 R17 Dunlop Super Race

Looking for some new boots for my '90 C2 for track and road and several of my GT3 owning friends are trying out the Dunlop SP Supersport Race tyres which are available in the UK at a price way cheaper than ordinary road tyres. Too good to resist......

The only problem is that in 17 inch size they only come in 215/45 and 245/40. Does anybody run these sizes on 7 and 9 Cup 1 wheels ?? I'm currently running P-Zero Rossos in standard 205/50 and 255/40. Whilst I'm sure the 215/45 will be ok on the front, subject to possible rubbing, I'm not sure about 245/40 on the rear. Again I'm sure they will fit but will the rolling diameter be sufficiently different to confuse the ABS.

Any advice gratefully received !!!

Jamie

I would check the sizes available as Dunlop released a new brochure last week and there are some more tyre sizes due in March I believe including a 255/40/17. What is your source for the tyres? I called a few places and they were cheaper than Michelin Cups but still pricey compared to road tyres.

Regards

I started this thread on PH after getting a comedy low price for the Dunlop Supersport Race tyre. I paid 100 quid a corner (plus VAT) for 18" tyres on my 993 RS. Stacks of others have ordered from this source in the last few days.

Spoke to Dan yesterday , price will remain cheap for rest of year on these SSR............as a result of Johnies post hes sold out of some more coming in abt 4 weeks !
Still raving abt them Yoda even after Doni last Sunday ..............................

Yes, Dan was my source (saw Johnny's post on Pistonheads) - prices are unbelievable 215/45/17 - £86 plus VAT and 245/40/17 - £101 plus VAT !!!!
Obviously would rather wait for a 255/40/17 - I'll give Dan another call and see if he knows anything about the new sizes .......

Cheers,

Jamie

Not really Melv.

I was out in Northumberland in my 993 RS at the weekend in damp conditions and the slightly knackered SSRs my car currently has gripped quite well. But of course that wasn't on track. If it pisses it down at Oulton on 5 March, I'll let you know!

Just checked in the new Dunlop Motorsport catalogue and couldn't find the Dunlop Super Sport Race tyre?? Does it go by another model designation? The Road legal track tyre they have is the D01J.

Thanks

Thats different Yoda ...............dont do some sizes yet, check wiv Dan, i think there is the one u ve mentioned DJO1 which is a cut slick, ie soft compound, handcut for wet [Not strictly road legal!] and theres a similar DJO2 ? FOR DRY ..............................

fOR Mel the SSR are the ones u sat next to me with, at last years 'slightly damp'[torrential] Brands .............say no more Guv!
