Did you see the bad news in the papers over the weekend - they've run out of money so this may be her last flight before she's grounded. Such a shame!

Next year is going to be the last flying season, due to major modifications needed to keep it airworthy and the lack of spares (mainly engines)

It was always going to be a limited life project, but sad to have it confirmed that next year will be the last time a Vulcan will fly

From our visit to the RAF museum at Hendon last Sunday where they have a static Vulcan exhibit, we were told that the flying Vulcan is nearly out of airframe hours and that is why it will be grounded. A new main wing spar will cost at least £200000 and would be a huge job to do.
I remember seeing the prototype flying at a Farnborough air show in the early fifties, I think it is very sad to not have her in the air in the future, please say hello to her from us and enjoy your visit.

In the 60's we lived close to the flight path from Biggin Hill, toward the end of the show they did a Vulcan scramble, watched it on TV then went into the front garden, could hear them quite a while before seeing them, fantastic sound then sight as ISTR 3 Vulcans went over giving it yahoo. Crying shame, they can keep a Lancaster flying but not the Vulcan.
