will lyons

As the title says the question is about the original wastegates

Are they the same unit and specifically would a late 250t wastegate fit on my early 220t

Wil

Should be ok to fit i would have thought, as far as i am aware the only difference in 220/250 ist he turbo and associated electronics.............waits to be corrected !

The wastegates themselves are fully and freely interchangeable. The only difference is the number of cooling fins in the wastegate casting body - however, having said that i'm not sure when the one with more fins was introduced - it may not have been introduced on the 250 specifically.

There is another slight difference in that the housing that the bolts pass through to attach the WG to the mounting is thicker on the 86/87 cars. If you fit an 88 and later WG to an earlier car then the bolts are too long. If you attach an 86/87 WG to a later car then the bolts will not be long enough. All this comes from the Lindsey wastegate instructions:

......which is all a bit academic as the bolts will most likely shear off when you remove it any way. []

I wouldn't replace it with a standard one any way. They are old and likely to allow blow by. Get something more modern.
