220 Calipers

Im having a lot of trouble with my front calipers. As some of you may know I bought some bigger caliper from the 250 turbo, but the discs don't fit my hubs on my early turbo and was told i would have to change more than just the hub to make them fit.
So i decided to have my old ones refurbed. The only thing is know the pistons are out the caliper is no good and been told a new one will be about £360
+vat.
Can anyone tell me wheres a good (and cheap) place to get some calipers from or would it be cheaper to get the bits to make the bigger discs fit?
Any advice would be great as the cost from the garage is going through the roof.
Thanks.

You have to ask yourself what you want. If you want the advantages of the bigger brakes then It would probably be just as cost effective to have some brackets and shimms made up to make the 250 turbo calipers and disc fit. The relationship between the caliper and the disc must be the same so it should be a case of shimming out your discs to suit, unless the discs need to come inboard, then you'll need to go the two-piece disc assemblies with a custom made centre.

I have my old front calipers in the garage. They are pretty common on ebay but if you struggle then I could let mine go - I wasn't planning on selling them but if i'm honest with myself I can't really see myself using them again.

ORIGINAL: Fen

S2 (or 968) calipers are the same and probably easier to get hold of.

apart from the 1986 years had 36/38 pistons and the later ones 36/40 pistons, but in reality the diffrence is negligable!

Rums944 - what's up with the old calipers? They suffer from plate lift (search on here), but this is not the end of a caliper as it can be cured. Rebuild kits are available with new seals and pistons.

What else can go wrong with them to make them unservicable?

Oli.
