Bugger !!
Went to fit Lindsey racing chips to my car tonight, did the KLR control unit, next the DME (Motronic) the car had a new one fitted by OPC a couple of years ago.
Bugger Bugger Bugger they have fitted a later 250 version with a 28 pin chipset not 24 pin ALA 220 Turbo, hence the chip does not fit, anyone have one knocking about (Alasdair ?) that i can swap with a reasonably newish perfect 250 unit plus some cash ? for an early 24 chip pin model ?

Frenchy I am amazed that Lyndsey didn't ask you to physically check that before selling the chip. I would be just as miffed with them mate. Chips are available in both 24 and 28 pin versions. I know because the guy who made mine (Russell Berry) is the guy who does Lyndsey Racing's chips. I got them via Vic Timpauer and they asked me to physically check the pin arrangement.

I'm sure I have read before that you can fit a 24 pin chip to a 28 pin ECU. I could be imagining things but it might be worth checking out. The extra 4 pins might simply be redundant in a 220bhp car as the main difference between the two ECU's was the introduction of closed loop Lambda sensing. Other than that the workings of the ECU and pin allocation is the same between the cars - which is why you can fit a 250 ECU to a 220 car with no modifications or changes.

Again - this is something from the inner bowels of my memory so could be wrong, but is worth a check - try querying Lindsay or even a search on Rennlist - if true you'll need to know which end to fit the chip - i.e. which pin sockets to leave empty.

Or to play it safe exchange the chip with Lindsay!

Cheers Lads,
Promax not to blame here as i sourced them via e bay, they are genuine lindsey chips cheap as they are 24 pin, my other option is to fit a chip to the ecu from another set that i have via Wayne Schofield of Chipwizards when he remapped the 250 on a rolling road, the car is a similar spec.
The 220 ran absolutely perfectly with the 250 ecu, wonder if it is worth trying with the 24 pin chip in different ends of the base and seeing what happens, surely it won't fry just not work correctly ?

Or option B swap the chips (Lindsey) when the black turbo S comes back from front repaint and stick the Chip Wizard chips back in there and use the 28 pin chip in the 220, if i can do a swap though for a 24 pin ECU i have a spare set of chips.

Peanut,
Cheers, great stuff, 5V will do some damage to the data only side of things, i am going to fire off an e mail to Lindsay and speak to promax tomorrow.
Very interseting to see that that the 89 chips were aggresively written ?
Cheers Jim.

My Company used to program 28 pin digital audio chips and I know how easily they can be fried believe me[:(] [:D]
5volts can fry a lot of the chips diodes, transistors , and other components if the polarity is fed the wrong way round.

Hi Jim, I think I have an 02 prefix box in the garage somehwere or may still be on the 220 car I have i you want one,
Alasdair

You have mail Aladair, STeve Simpkin rang today regards buying, i have said to go for a nice Turbo for around 6k he should get a good un rather than the 10k one discussed.
