and they said (and some are still saying) it'll never sell.

25,000th Panamera built in the Leipzig Porsche factory

Stuttgart/Leipzig. The new fourth Porsche model series is enjoying such popularity that only ten months after the start of sales, the Leipzig factory of the Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart has already built the 25,000th Panamera. In addition to the Panamera, the new generation of the sporty, all-terrain vehicle "" the Cayenne "" is also being produced in the same facility in the State of Saxony.

The anniversary vehicle, a ruby-red Panamera with a particularly efficient 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine (300 hp), will be delivered to a customer in the USA. "The benchmark performance of our Panamera V6 models wins over our customers worldwide. Even in the USA, a country with a preference for V8 engines, they impress with their efficiency and sportiness. The 4-door combines these aspects with the comfort and exclusivity of the luxury class," says Porsche Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Bernhard Maier.

The fourth series has been on the market since September 2009, with the 400-hp strong 8-cylinder variants of the Panamera S and Panamera 4S, as well as Panamera Turbo (500 hp). Since May 2010, the Panamera and Panamera 4 have supplemented the product range with their V6 engines.

You walk out of the first class cabin, down the red carpet and through the airport to find your transport to your waiting five-star hotel. Why do they always stick you in the back of a 30-year-old Lincoln Towncar that looks like it's spent the better part of its life taking fares? Well, if you're headed to a Gansevoort Group hotel, rest easy: they'll be picking you up in a Porsche Panamera 4S.

If you're in New York City, that is. Both the Manhattan Meatpacking District and Park Avenue South hotels will be getting the Panamera people-movers starting August 15. Both in-town transport and VIP airport transportation are included in the stay.

"We're looking forward to transforming the perception of city driving for Gansevoort Hotel Group guests," says Detlev Von Platen, president and CEO, Porsche Cars North America. "Appreciating one of the world's greatest cities from the spacious interior of a Porsche Panamera is a great way to increase your pulse rate without adding an iota of stress."

The press release even promises some fun in the car: "With Porsche's race-bred performance on tap, guests will be whisked to their destinations as fast as New York City traffic allows "" or as leisurely as they wish for a memorable, fashionably-late arrival." We're guessing "as fast as New York City traffic allows" isn't exactly going to tap into much of that race-bred performance, but we're certainly willing to give it a go next time we're in town.

The Panamera is already on its way to rivalling the Cayenne as Porsche's best-selling model, passing the 25,000-unit mark recently. With its roomy back seat, spacious trunk, and soft-to-speedy dynamics, it should find its new fleet-duty purpose suits it well.

Surprised how many low-mileage ones are for sale on Pistonheads though - about 100, isnt this strange for a new model?

most seem to be the OPC trying to shift ex-demonstrators.
i thought about buying one of those myself but i wanted a tow hook and they are not as yet available as an add on item. [&o]

Have to agree with you Alan - my 4S is included in that number. Bought in January and disposed of in July with 2000miles on clock because it was awful. Poor gearbox, trim falling off, TV not working and sunroof unusable between 20-45mph due buffeting. If it had been fixed quickly I would have kept it but stonewalling by Porsche/Dealer stating everything meets manufacturers specification meant no choice but to dispose of it.

First Porsche and certainly the last - how disappointing.

So how much does the OPC charge then for the factory fit tow hook?

There was one in Glasow OPC with one and I wonder how it would look pulling a caravan and before you add the picture (rather than a tasty 356)[:D]

sorry to hear you had problems with you. i had the same problems with a brand new Merc and handed the car back to Merc demanded my money back and i have returned to porsche, who have always looked after me but some of the dealerships are better than others so i would have suggested that you took the car to a diffrent dealership or contacted customer services at Reading (Porsche H/Q) and asked them to help.

the gearbox is very good on mine and all the other Panameras i've driven. infact thats one thing thats so far has got glowing reports from the owners same can be said for build quality. but then i've not got TV or a sunroof in mine. [:-]

Thanks your reply Helen.

I tried Reading who were totally unhelpful. Dealer did what they could but stonewalling came from Reading. Even contacted President & Chairman Michael Macht and received an answer from customer.commitment@porsche.de - unfortunately there wasn't any. Replacement GTC is perfect so I guess I'm still in the "VW family". I was sceptical when Porsche only offered a 2 year warranty and I think reading a few articles about Panamera, owners may have a problem when this runs out.

Anyway, it wasn't to be and one moves on. My regret is that I didn't even get chance to attend a single Porsche Club meeting as I have been travelling a lot and always seem to be away first week of the month. Must really get a job then I'll have to stay at home more often.

Good luck to all current and future Panamera owners - they seem very popular in Arizona/California where I spend a lot of time.
