2am wake up call

I would just like to say that today I feel tired. At 2:05am my 996 alarm sounded. I announced to Cheryl Cole, I had to go and see who was making off with my pride and joy! At that moment my wife elbowed me in the ribs and told me to wake up and shut that 'thing' up! I did wonder downstairs and out to the car where she was silent. Back to bed I marched thinking it wasn't my car and gutted I had been nasty to Cheryl Cole in my dream. 2:35am, again car alarm sounds but with a slight whimper. Battery low, so after 25 min of messing with chargers, extension leads and thinking what a great design putting the horn next to the battery I'm working on at 2:55am was, job done. After worrying about fires and my 996 burning to the ground from a faulty charger, I drifted off but by this time Cheryl Cole had met someone else. [:(]

In the cold light of day this morning, I realised that she had been on charge all night Friday and all day Saturday. Would a new battery be required? Sadly I'm not getting to use her in the time between charging and 'discharging.'

Should a new battery be sort or should I 'use it' as the wife suggests? Or can there be something else I don't know about... gremlins maybe? I've seen the films and you have to watch out for them and don't get them wet.... [:D]

hi had same issue last night! at 12.30am... I had flat battery two weeks ago. Got the AA to jump me drove to battery supplier who was only 5 mins away, and who had supplied new battery last year. They tested it and said all was ok.
Used the car bank hol weekend and all ok.
Then same problem Sunday am last weekend - dead again! But had no time to ring AA. So thought I would leave it a few days and then ring them soon BUT then my alarm kicks in late last night - I guess it telling me my battery is dead! Clever Germans - Alarm goes off every approx 20 mins for about 3 minutes!

So AA come test the amp draw once jumped at 12.30 am this morning.... battery is 75 amp and very quickly of running engine for 15 mins it was holding 45 amps. So AA passes the battery as ok based on their test equipment. Although it was so dead the AA guy seemed convinced it was knackered and I have to replace it. But he was surprised that it was suddenly got back to life so quickly.

I had also bought the Swedish recommended Porsche charger but had failed to plug it in!
I had the terminals fixed on the battery when I had checked out with the supplier - so plugged it in so I can now close bonnet and connector lead runs up over leaf sheild and lets me plug into the charger. So fingers crossed no more alarms at midnight!

A simple check is to look at the voltmeter on the dash. It should read 12v with the engine stopped, and around 14.5v with it running.

If it is reading less than 14v running, then it may not be charging properly. If it is less than 12v stationary, after having been left for a few hours, then it is the either the battery, or there is an excessive current drain.

Hi C4PO! Snap haha! Thank you Richard!! It readys 14.5 when driving and 12/13 when stationary, I fear the wife maybe correct and I should use it.....

Hi Chris
If you hadn't driven it for a few weeks then i wouldn't worry, just charge it for a day then do a few checks.
