3.2 / 3.4 engine

I am just about to embark on my search for a BoxtserS or CaymanS, but had a quick question.

I know the Cayman comes with only the 296 bhp 3.4 engine, but when I am looking at the Boxsters, I can see them with either a 3.2 or the 3.4, and this where my questions starts.

The engines don't seem to relate to a year i.e. I have seen the 3,4 in 2005, 2006 and 2007 cars and for the same years have seen the 3.2 engine, why is that?

Is the 3.4 the same as in the Cayman?

Is the servicing the same?

What should I be looking for? I can imagine in day to day driving it won't make any differences, but is the 3.4 a marked improvement in other areas?

Thanks all

Because whoever is saying this is wrong.
The 3.4 was launched as a 2007 Model Year car (so from Sept 2006 onwards).

It was the same as the Cayman until the latest "Next Gen" cars where the Cayman gained a few HP to maintain a perceived performance advantage.

...Cayman gained a few HP to maintain a perceived performance advantage.

...and to justify charging more for a coupe than an equivalent convertible [;)]

So the Boxster here then http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/84370/showroom.htm what does that mean??

As its shown as being a 2005 / 05 reg but with a 3.4 engine, but what was said above indicates that the 3.4 should only be around from 2006 / 56 (i think)

Thanks all, just that I am confused [:)]

This is a 3.2; autotrader or M&M Performance seems to offer an auto-pick for the model spec and the seller has picked the latest 3.4 model so even under technical data tab it has the figures for the latest 3.4 i.e. all the performance/economy: mpg, weight figures are wrong for the 2005 being sold.

Ah OK, a simple human error [;)] thanks guys.

So now then, is there any noticable difference between the 2, is the 3.4 an improvement in any areas over the 3.2, or will real world driving not show them, if any?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

3.2 is 280hp, 3.4 is 295bhp - if you can feel that extra 15bhp with your right foot then you are very sensitive.

I keep meaning to go back and look at the 2 power curves .. As Black80XSA says 15 HP should not be detectable, however [;)] .. a 3.4 when it hits 4000rpm is (IMVHO) a different beast to a 3.2 when it hits 4000 RPM..
