3.2 Carpet replacement

Guest

Hi,

Just looking to purchase an '89 3.2 Carrera, all looking well but the carpets are quite bad really. How easy is a self fit replacement for the set ??

Cheers
Lee

depends....the full set is something like 20 odd pieces of carpest, of which 4 pieces, (the main 4 floor mats) are removeable, the rest is 'fitted' and glued in place, so not easy.

I went for the easy option and bought the 4 replacements floor sections, which when in place...showed up the rest sooooooo bad ...I had to have the rest done.

A company called Southbound Trimmers did mine, toal of about £870 fully fitted inclusive of door bins etc...

you will find their contact details in Porsche Post or Porsche & 911 World

If you buy a carpet 'kit' from Southbound it comes with glue and instructions, it's not rocket science but take your time and put the carpets in the right order first. Do a trial run sans glue. About £420.00

Bones is right - much easier as well if you take the front seats out. Be prepared to re-trim the odd area in vinyl that may be damaged/might get damaged when you take the carpets out (such as the edging to the aperture on the pillar by the door hinges etc).

Quite a therapeutic job if you're under no pressure for time, a bit fiddly round the gearshift/centre console when refitting, but no specialist ability required - really just applied common sense.

Enjoy...

it's not rocket science

Just be aware, that in theory this is true, but in some cars (mine ?) Dave N (Southbound)( suggested that to correctly re-trim the rear carpet on the side of the interior, would require the side windows to be popped out.
