3.2 engine swap

Has anybody out there any experience of fitting a 3.2 engine into an SC. I know it fits, but the flywheel on the 3.2 looks different (it has "teeth" like a starter gear ring, but I think they are for the ignition/injection/timing system; there are cables and pipes all over the shop the purpose of which is not immediately obvious; and you have to find and fit an ECU, but how do you wire it up? Any help or suggestions much appreciated? For that matter, does anyone know where I might find said ECU?

By the way, I posted a thread about 6 months ago about polycarbonate windows for a 911. Thanks to whoever suggested Motoring News. Airedale Race Components advertise in there. They are based near (ish) me in North Yorkshire. The service was good and the price not bad at all.

Refresh our memories as to why you are doing this Ian. If you are planning on transplanting into an SC why go for a 3.2? Options to consider are , a turbo , a 964 or a 993 engine. If your engine is in good condition but you want more ponies then consider this

combine this with early HEs and a Triad 2 in 2 out and you will probably see 220-240 bhp depending on the year of your SC and it's compression ratio. Lose some weight and you have a very quick SC.

Thanks Bones. We can always rely on you for a response.

I am doing it because my old engine was tired and in need of a rebuild, but my gearbox had recently been rebuilt for the previous owner. I did not want to/could not afford to buy both engine and gearbox so decided on a 3.2 because the 'box can handle its torque.

All being well, I now have a good engine with plenty miles left in it, more power, more torque and more scope for future tuning/upgrade for the same price as a rebuild to standard spec on the old 3.0.

Just one thing - anybody know how to wire up the ECU, DME relay and altitude meter that come with the 3.2. I have the ECU to engine loom, but where does the supply to the ECU etc come from? Help!!

Do some research on Pelican Parts forum and if you can't do it yourself find a good local Independent to help out Ian.

hi ian, the gearbox, althrough the same 915 type on both the cs & 3.2 the 3.2s had an oil cooler built on to them
