3.2 Register stand

We where invited on the stand for saturday and it was a disappointment only 5 cars no gazebo, plaque, flag etc to show what the stand was the smallest turnout of all the stands.[:(][:(][:(]
The C S had more cars.
No one turned up officially to answer any questions that people asked,
My wife and I stayed around as long as we could trying to answer some[8|]

Hi there, I e-mailed and called Simon to offer my car with no reply, so placed my car on the Scotland stand (no gazebo either) I went round 3 times before realising that the cars were thrown in with the SC' s. Seen your car though, very nice indeed.

So you are 3.2 fordy. I am the John that spoke to you for a while, with the dark blue 3.2 next to yours.

Yes, I was a trifle disappointed at the lack of ' interest' by the ' powers that be' over the 3.2 register stand. Having made the effort to get there early - 07:00 - (OK, part of that was because I was helping out as one of the ' Porsche Club Crew' - orange tee-shirts), and park next to the other 3.2 (after I had found the register area, with it' s one small sign), I did return on a number of occasions, to find nothing but the occasional confused register member. I recognised one of them by the fact that he was also wearing the register polo shirt (as was I) ! I even left my mobile number, just in case.
There was one new Porsche owner who wanted to join the register, so came to the ' stand' - we told him to use the web site.

Having done nothing to help organise this stand, I am not too sure that I should complain too much, but I was asked/volunteered to put my car on the stand, and there were some jibes from the CS and SC stands either side. Considering the size of the register, this was a bit poor; I am sure that someone could have been persuaded.

So, why no gazebo, flags (uncollected from control) etc., and where the organisers ?

I was not there Sunday, so that day could have been better, I don' t know. Was it ?

Hi John
Nice to put a face to a name on this forum and to see what other people have done with there cars, nice one
Hope to see you again sometime

You did better than us then! We wandered up and down all day on Sunday without finding either the 3.2 Register or the NW Porkies. Perhaps I need to visit the opticians. Good to see so many cars though and a thoroughly nice day out!

In response to some comment about the register display at Eynsham Hall ........

As a note of interest, let me tell you that despite many PPost requests I only had ONE member offering his car for the display - even Geoff Ives had to get involved and ask for more cars on this forum.

To say that I was disappointed in members responses and general lack of interest/help does not fully describe my feelings - and I think that Simon was down about it all as well. So, if you start with nothing, I/we cannot build something that does not exist. As I have said many times, this is your register - not mine or my teams - we just look after it for you.

Over and above that, was the discussion (for want of a better word) from owners who appeared to claim the right to anything free if they displayed their car. Sorry to all those folks, but that does not wash with me - cars need to be enthusiastically displayed, not in return for freebees!

So there you have it, next year (or whenever the next national event occurs) there will be NO Carrera Register Stand (not official anyway) unless somebody has the time, inclination and thick skin to take it on.

Sorry to blast this past you - but it needs comment. If anyone thinks they can do better, then be my guest...... perhaps a PCGB national organiser is the way forward? Simon has my full backing and will continue in his roll as Events Assistant but (following discussion with him - which by the way, brought him back from certain resignation!) will only handle the ' commercial' type events - like the successful JZ Machtech day. He already has two or three more in the pipeline. With regards to individual 3.2 events/happening, I have asked for a track-day co-ordinator but received no replies and I have requested many times for ideas etc... but nothing.

So, as a sum up, we had to virtually drag members cars along - not great.

I offered mine (I don' t know if I am the one mentioned), partly because I wanted to, and partly because I was going to be there as ' Porsche Club Crew' anyway. I would probably have gone without the ' Crew' bit, just this way it was more fun.

The problem is, I didn' t know why there was no stand, and I couldn' t explain why to anyone who asked, which was a bit awkward. If I had known beforehand, then I could have at least answered the questions properly (ie, by telling people off for not volunteering !), or even parked somewhere else, instead of the long winded effort in finding the spot in the first place. I didn' t know, at the time, with whom to be annoyed, and no-one was about to tell me. I even left my mobile number on the dash, but no official turned up, I assume (no call).

I have sympathy with you, working hard to little or no avail, as I have been there on other committees, and we do need to be proactive as members (normally, I' m not, so I am one to talk !), but talk of nothing next year is a bit strong, and won' t encourage the ' silent' members to be anything else, in my opinion.

So, I am also a bit annoyed (at whom ?), as I feel, like you, let down.

I would have volunteered my car for the stand but for the fact that I wanted to bring the whole family and I couldn' t commit to arriving before 10:00am and leaving no sooner than 17:00.

I appreciate that the organisers do not want cars driving in and out of the main area, so I wouldn' t expect this to change.

Where was the gazebo?

I offered my car to Simon by both a phone call and email. I even said to a friend who drove down from Scotland at the same time that I was quite excited about putting my car on the " register" stand as I have only had her for a few months. I appreciate the fact that organising something like this can be a major headache. On receiving no reply from Simon I figuered that tha stand was full and headed toward the Scotland stand (which also had no gazebo or flag, but that is for another forum). I could not find the register stand/gazebo or I would have offered my car for the Sunday.

All a little disappointing considering we are supposed to be the " biggest" register.

My wife and I would of gladly of volunteered if we had only known, we did stay around the register site as long as we could trying to answer some of the questions people put to us between 0915 till 1715.If we had only been asked we would of been a bit more clued up and not felt like a idiots on some of the questions people asked, after travelling over 250+ miles from the North East to get to the event

Having read through the various comments with regards to the register stand at the show I feel it is fair to comment on both sides of the arguement.

I have only been a member since November last year and this was my first club event. I offered simon my car the week before for the Sunday after seeing how short the register was on cars and he sorted me out the pass very promptly. I was uncertain of what to expect of this sort of event and must admit that I was a little confused at there only being a 3.2 register sign and nothing else. However I did sort myself out parking the car in the available slot so at least the front display line was complete. (mine was the red cabriolet is case any one was interested) So how established members can comment on not being able to find the register is beyond me. I was also worried about the amount of time that me car was meant to be on the stand as had to leave mid afternoon to return to Lancs to relieve the babysitters. I would say that it was not a problem getting out after the soap box event was finished and there were plenty of cars leaving from other registers. Maybe this could be made clear to members next time as we may get a much better turnout if members from far away feel they can get out before the end of the event.
I returned to the stand on a number of occasions and even tried to talk a couple into looking into a carrera 3.2 instead of a super sport but I think I failed. I am not offering my services yet but will ask next time if help is needed in setting up for this sort of event. On the whole an extremely enjoyable event and well done to the club for organising things as smoothly as they where.
(Tony, At least your comment will mean no-one has to worry about even finding a sign at future events. But is this what we really want ???)
Thanks for listening

hi Tony, i am a newish member to the club (well i was a member in 1995 for a year) and would just like to ask how do i join the 3.2 register as i would of happliy of put my car on the stand as i was there from from friday to sunday staying in the camping field.i put my car in the street concours instead but realised that the judges seem to make up the rules as there go along with reguard to the points.

Thanks Tim

You' re quite correct with your final comment and I agree that is not what we want.

I am quite happy to listen to ideas and make a plan for future representation at PCGB national events, but please bear in mind that the individual stands (registers or regions) are not compulsory and nor is it a competition to achieve the best stand. I do not want to drag members out (which is exactly what happened this time) and nor do I want to engineer something that forces members into a corner. I would like to see a casual gathering of cars and members all chatting and getting along, regardless of fixtures or fittings.

I was a little shaken by the lack of response and to be honest, perhaps I should have canned the whole thing earlier on. If members are not interested then who am I to insist?

Most members will have attended their individual regional events, and because the registers are not geographical, I understand that most would want to stay with their regions and their friends - they may not even know anyone in their register. Registers are specialist and ' elite' in one main respect (type of Porsche) so we are on the back-foot anyway.

In conclusion then, how about someone coming forward who would like the challenge - perhaps the loneliest job on the planet, but it' s there for the taking. Let me know.

Hi Steve

Firstly, the register is now on-line and you can put your car on the register at the PCGB website - www.porscheclubgb.co.uk - and follow the Carrera Register pages. You will find a link there.

Secondly, there was months of ' advertising' for the national event in PP - both general and in register reports - You should have made contact and I would have gladly included your car.

With regards to the street concours, I have no experience with them and cannot comment. I do however, feel these to be great for members who drive their cars and still keep them clean - me for example. I don' t know the judges but I' m sure if you field the question in the general discussion forum, someone will reply. I will however say that the judges in all probability are faced with many and varied cars (ie; not necessarily to original specification) and I' m sure that some ' thinking-on-their-feet' takes place. Mileage/usage must also play a part - in other words, if a good looking 300,000 mile car stands next to a gleaming 30,000 mile car, the fomer may well will? Don' t know!

Quite right, so there should be no excuse.

I was a bit late in ' applying' , as I didn' t know if my car would be being fixed/I would be in London (chez nous) that weekend.

You' re right, dragging people along is not a good idea, but I think I will be up for the next request (what, after all my moaning ?!) - it' s got to work out sometime.
