HI ALL,

JUST A QUICK POST BEFORE I GET CARRIED AWAY THROWING MONEY AT MY BOXSTER! SEEM TO HAVE DEVELOPED A ROUGH/POOR/UNSTABLE IDLE. IT'S A 2001 BOXSTER 3.2S TIPTRONIC WITH 60K ON THE CLOCK. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WORSE WHEN ITS WARMED UP AND MAINLY IN 'P' AS APPOSSED TO 'D' POSITION. ALTHOUGH IT IS STARTING TO HUNT IN DRIVE AS IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE!! I WAS PLANNING TO HAVE A LOOK AT THE MAF SENSOR AND THROTTLE BODY NOW THE HARD TOP HAS BEEN REMOVED FOR SUMMER. I'VE TRIED CHANGING FUEL FROM TESCO MOMENTUM TO V POWER BUT NO DIFFERENCE? ANY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE OF THIS OR OTHER AREAS TO INVESTIGATE MUCH APPRECIATED....[]

Hi Dean,
Am sorry your car's sick, have same model but 6 sp manual 2002.
It could be a number of things, but have u checked the basic areas:
The ims bearing-major fault.
Cam belts,erm tension etc.
Valves.
Spark plugs and connection.
Auto diff oil and trans oil, levels, changes?
Engine oil level.
A friend of mine has had trouble with the auto box,but he was using it very hard on acceleration so might
not be the same for everyone!
Hope this helps,kind regards Dave.

Sorry to hear about your problem Dean.

As Dave says, it could be any number of things but rough/unstable idling would indicate an ignition/fuelling issue as a starting point, perhaps a faulty sparking plug or coil pack or a partially blocked injector. It may just be a faulty sensor (of which there are many!). Oddly, you say that the problem's worse when the engine isn't under load - usually its the reverse.

Whatever the source of the problem, I think that you'll need to get the car hooked up to a diagnostic system which should give you an indication where the fault lies.

Hope that's of some help and good luck.

Jeff
