3.2 servicing

Lowlander

Hello there,

I am in the process of looking to buy either a 3.2 carrera or a late SC. Can anyone receommend a good specialist for servicing and repairs? I live in Edinburgh so the closer the better but I'm willing to travel to get the car serviced by a reputable garage.

Thanks and all the best.

Martin.

Martin,

Would recommend Motortune who are based in Shotts, they do a superb job. I am based in North Berwick and travel to him. There are people in Edinburgh but truthfully I would not recommend them.

The person to ask for is Peter McAnna who is the owner and the phone number is 01501 822247. He is very knowledgable and will not mess you around.

Thanks William,

Do they specialise in Porsche or do they also service and repair other marques?

All the best.

Martin.

Yup, another vote for Motortune here, in fact my car is in there now. Peter the owner is an ex Porsche tech, and he does all the Porsche stuff, although he employs a number of other mechanics who do the simpler stuff and other non-P cars.

Motortune, Shotts 01501 822247

Cheers

I used Brian Miller Porsche Specialist 0131 443 7806 for my lube service last year, seems very knowledgable and was exceedingly helpful.

I used Motortune once when I had my 944 Turbo, sometime in 1998. Recommended by a friend.

They were ok, until you have a problem.

If you piss off the owner, I can't remember his name, you're in trouble; I had the car in to replace rusty fuel lines. I knew that he'd be using his own parts to replace old lines, but I bought my own, which annoyed him, and told me not to do it again (maybe he makes money on parts?). Fair enough, but I'd had some leftover from a previous job.

Anyway after picking up the car it drove like an absolute dog. I turned round and went back and he drove the car and agreed there was a problem, but not relating to the repairs he made. I told him the car was absolutely fine when I gave him the car, and then he went off at me again because he was fed up with people taking their cars away then making out they are worse than before.

Anyway we parted company, and I drove home, with the car still driving badly.

When I got home I looked under the car and noticed some silver clamps locked over the fuel line (obviously they'd put them there when replacing the rusted lines, to stop the fuel running out).

No wonder the car wasn't running correctly, he'd obviously forgotten to remove them, fair enough, but his attitude sucked big time.

Never used him again after that one... nice enough bloke but don't piss him off.

He even asked me to post the clamps back.... ???

I have found Peter, the owner, to be a very courteous and straight forward guy. If I have had any problems or niggles he has sorted them out straight away. He only uses OEM Porsche parts, but will fit whatever you ask him to fit. He also replaced my suspension and I supplied all of the parts and he never demanded that he should source them himself.

Hi all
As many of you know i have used Peter for many years and have found him to be more than helpful and very fair on pricing etc...
I would recommend him to anybody.
All in all i find him EXCELLENT!!!!!!

All the Best
Al

Just got my car back from Peter, and it is superb.

New clutch and flywheel, major service, engine clean up, new tinware, oil lines, brakes and more. A sizeable bill, but probably 1/3rd of what it would have cost at the OPC. (Anyone wants more deatil, I'll happily discuss it off line.)

I remain a very satisfied customer. Nuff said
