3.4 Carrera A/C Compressor?

Is my A/C compressor broken?

Since the onset of the warm weather it has become blatantly clear that my air con is no longer working. It used to be like turning the inside of my 996 into the arctic and now nothing. I have checked the condensers (replaced 5 years ago) and no sign of damage or leaks and the system is holding pressure. When I turn the air con on you get the normal increase in revs and a sort of hissing noise from the vents and then no cool air.

On a drive to work the other day I noticed rumbling/knocking noise and got concerned so turned off the fans/air con and the noise stopped, I have now isolated it to the air con compressor (I don't recall it being noisy before now). The air con clutch is still functioning but when I put my hand on the compressor I can't feel any change with the air con selected off or on???

I would appreciate if the knowledgeable 996 owners on the forum would agree with my diagnosis and whether it is a DIY or specialist job (Design 911 do a Denso OE part for 299+vat / Porsche have quoted 900inc vat fitted)???

Thanks in advance Damien.[8|]

Which probably points to damaged A/C rads at the front of the car. Leaves and detritus get trapped in there and rot them. So if it is regassed and stops working again I'd have a look at those next. There is a DIY in the technical section.

Thanks Richard,

I have checked the pressure and all is good so I will try an air con service and see if that helps, (finger crossed) thanks.

Damien.
