3.4 vs 2.7 running costs (real world)

Going to look at a very well specced 56 plate S today, but unsure if i can really afford it, i don't do a lot of miles maybe 8k a year and most of that is urban, so i'm wondering do i push the boat out and take the hit on MPG or wait till a 2.7 comes along that i like.
Apart from increased insurance and tax, has anyone gone from a 2.7 to a 3.4 and found the running costs increase significantly?
