3.6 turbo 2 for sale on AT

Theres a 3.6 Turbo 2 on Autotrader. This car was sold new by AFN to a bloke in Malaysia and the returned to the UK some 3 years later. My question being, will this be regarded as an import car and come with some of the usual Far east import "anomolies" (ie questionable History and mileage) or has Malaysia got a better system than Japan

Just ascertain whether or not it's a C16 UK spec car.....if it is, then you'll have no problem on that front.

Sounds an interesting car, and it's easy enough to see if it's a C16 spec from the option codes....and if what you've been told is correct re AFN, then no reason why it wouldn't be.
Don't know who confirmed the car at Porsche Club GB - it wasn't me - but I do recollect that 911 & PW did a reasonably detailed Tried and Tested article within the last year on one of these 1994 cars that Andrew Mearns at Gmund Cars had for sale.

Nice looking car and a great colour. Surely the wrong wheels though, but there is a set of Speedlines advertised in PP.
The middle bumper section looks like one from an RS. Is that correct for the car?

So these aren't the "proper" wheels for the car and what differences are there to the bumper ... does that mean the possibility of a "knock" and the bumper has been replaced?

All 964 turbo 3,6 cars had the 'RS' middle section rear bumper fitted by the factory as standard.

Thanks, thats one thing thats ok then. So the wheels that are on the car ... would they have been another type originally or were they an option when new?

Dale,

all 964 turbo 3,6's were factory fitted with 18-inch, 3-piece 'Speedline for Porsche' Cup alloys (IMHO the most beautiful wheels ever fitted to a porsche). Here's a pic.

As I figure will be a forthcoming question yes, brake calipers on turbo 3,6's were in red as standard..

Hi Dale,, nice to see you are doing your homework !![:)]

All 3.6 Turbo's had the overriders!! on the rear bumper,, 3.3 T's did not,,
The alloys are not the correct ones, but latter 993T alloys, but that's how the car was when i bought her, some may say the speedline's look better [:(] but for everyday use, i think the 993 are better to live with,, in a ideal world,,, a set of "show" speedlines would be good

Oh,, and YES the caliper are red !! as they should be,,

Hi Emilios,, long time , no speake,, hope things have slowly improved with time

Hi Tim,
LOL ... one has to do ones homework when one is dealing with lots of money. I've decided I'll most probably be giving Speedsters a sidestep seeing as I want a car for use all year round. So I'll be sticking with 3.3 or 3.6 Turbo route and serious searching will begin in the new year. If you still have yours then I'll give you a bell, if not, the search will continue [:D] BTW how long have you onwned the car?

No problem Dale, the same as i did when i bought her 18 months or so ago,and this is the place to search for back posts for info from other members ,, and why i went for the 3.6T

Still not convinced that a 996 GT is the way to go for myself, but that come up late feb time !! so if not fixed up by then, let me know,

Regards Tim

The problem with a car that has left the country is that while it was away from GB is that if it was stolen/recovered or damaged/repaired it would not be recorded with HPI. This may make the car more difficult to sell in the future.
Even if it was a GB car and was HPI clear you should still have a PPI carried out that includes looking for any accident damage. The 3.6 is a great car.

My mistake, I just looked at the pictures of the Maritime blue 3.6 Turbo recently sold via Pistonheads and that has the same RS style rear bumper middle section.

Ive just seen this one again ... Paragon must have bought it off Pistonheads, its now on their site. No price as yet, but it will be interesting to see how much they mark it up

PPI - pre-purchase inspection.

From what I heard the Maritime blue car was pretty clean but could have benefited from a service and the wheels refurbed.

Well after a bit of a break (for one reason or another), I'm back looking at Turbo 2's. Ive seen 4 that I have an interest in (all of which were for sale the last time I was looking) and was wondering if anyone would give me some guidance as to the most desirable to go for.
1st is a P reg Turbo 4 on AT at £34999 no mileage given but suspect will be high for that price.
2nd a 1992 3.3 964 at Paul Devyea £33995 .. 30000miles in lovely Tahoe Blue
3rd a 1994 3.6 964 on AT with Formula Cars £33950 ... 57000miles (I was looking at this one late the end of last year)
4th a 1993 3.3 964 at Gmund £29995 ... 59972miles (6 OWNERS :-O ) in lovely Horizon Blue.
From a residual value point of view given that I do approx 6000miles a year would it be better to go for the 3.6 with higher mileage but rarer or the low miles 3.3 at Paul Devyea's. Also Given the miles and owners on the Gmund car would it be best to pay the extra £4000(ish) and get either of the others.

Cheers Dale
