3.6 VS 3.8 - Buying Questions

Hi people,

I guess this type of thread has been done to death so apologies in advance but looking for an upto date view.

I've had a 996 C4S and a 996 Turbo X50 but I have been out of the fold in terms of Porsche ownership for a few years having gone down the Aston Martin route amongst other prestige cars.

I want a 997. I'd love a Turbo but I don't have 45k right now due to house purchase taking my £££.

So I'm looking at a 997 Carrera S, hopefully a RWD having only owned 4WD Porsche to date.

Obviously I am conscious of RMS IMS issues and I'm looking at cars from 05-08 with an upper budget of 28,500

I'd prefer the 3.8 as it's bigger and bigger is better right...?! How about reliability between the two engines? Any advice feedback and knowledge on the differences would be hugely appreciated.

With your budget, you should be able to find a very nice late 06/early 07 C2S. Personally, I would avoid tiptonic, targa, AWD and cab.
3.8 is definitely the way to go for all sorts of reasons.

Regards,

People. [sm=kiss.gif]

I drive more of the 3.8 than the 3.6, but I prefer the drive of the none-PASM 3.6. Performance difference is marginal IMO.
Don't worry about RMS and IMS, but do worry about bore scoring, even on low mileage cars.
3.8s on the whole will be better spec'd

conclusion - drive both!
