3 point rear belts in a cabrio - Now Fitted

As you'll all know, UK & Euro spec 993 Cabrio's came with the fold down rear seats which are great for carrying extra luggage etc, but only had lap belts , whci isn't so good for transporting children around !

The US cars, by law, had to have 3 point belts in the rear.

Well, it's taken me a while to collect all the parts but I have finally got a US spec Porsche rear seat & belts fitted into my 993 [:D]

This assembly basically consists of a very heavy sup frame which is bolted to the bodyshell ( rear cross member & tunnel ) and onto which the seat belts & seat backs are bolted. Unfortunately it now means the seats are fixed in the upright position, but that's a price to pay for kids safety.

I sourced teh US spec assembly from a Rennlister based in Germany & had the lot shipped across .... then because the UK shells differ slightly to the US ones, I had David Raper from Car-Tech & Care ( ex Redline Racing ) fit it. David did a super job & I'm extremely happy [:D] . If anyone is in the north of England & looking for a Porsche specialist, I'd recommend they have a word with David

Anyway, here are the photos

Fantastic job, i am to looking at how to install a baby seat in the rear of a 1995 Cab.
Would it be possible to advise the total cost of your mod and the ease of getting the parts.

Thanks

TIM

finding the parts wasn't easy ....although there are plenty in the USA, but it is a heavy bit of kit. I was lucky to find one in Germany that had come across from the US in the guys US spec cabrio. A lot of the US cars remove these rear belts / seats & replace the area with the rear seat delete kit which gives excellent storage / luggage ability.

Costs .... for the parts alone , they cost whatever the seller wants [;)] , but I got mine for couple of hundred shipped. IF buying from the US, factor in import costs etc.

Fitting, you'll need to factor in the same kind of money again, but obviously this will depend on your mechanic or wether you're doing it yourself.
