3 rd break down, still a mystery

Hi guys,

I break down 3 times with in a month, always the same way, slowing and shifting down, the car just shuts itself down, as if I had turn off the key,

We check relays, changed a faulty coil, ( both coils were renewed 3 months ago ) fit a new crank sensor , removed the alarm (10 years old) but we can't find the problem....I break down he day before yesterday exactly the same way, now I am so worried to drive the car....

Any ideas , as anyone as experience this problem.....

Thanks

Konstantin

[]I think this seems a electrical connection problem.
It sounds like you have an intermittent short, could be wise to check all connections from battery.
You could start from battery,eg earth lead to body, maybe check for a short or bad connections.
Also for fuel getting through no blockages, just the basics alternator main fuses, any wires that could be getting hot near exhaust,or elsewhere.
Your car sounds really nice,I love the speedlines.

Hi guys ,

Thanks for your reply,

It's probably a bad connection, I will have to go through everything again,
Battery cables, relays , ECU loom adapter, so on....
We change the fuel filter,
The weather is very hot here at the moment 33/35 c ,
I am still wondering , what could have damaged a brand new coil, or maybe it's just bad luck with a faulty new one...
We also went through all fuses some of them were crack due to age ...

Acer thanks for your comment, love my Speedlines too, there are not for Porsche, but I prefer the thiner look, and also fits perfectly with just a 6 mm shim for the rears, being 8 1/2 and 10,

I may have to drive the car around home until it fails again....what a nightmare.....

Will let you know if I found anything

[8D]Konstantin,
Am feelin your hassles erm maybe worth
Using a electrical tester for constant current,
maybe worth checking distributor connections, could be
Ht leads one broken or poor connection, maybe worth changing or testing,
hope this helps.
My car has the gt3 split rims sport design, with pirelli zeros very sticky
am liking the grip, but they do churn up a bit at slow turning!
Just beat the rain today putting the roof up phew,
Car runs great on Mobil 1.

[8D]Sorry worth checking coil lead for constant current,
They do break down and not always in good condition

Yes I have that in mind check all leads....
I run Michelin PS they are very good to, my oil is Mobile 1 to ...

Will keep you updated...

Hi guys , just a update, we went through everything, and it seams to be the DME, witch we thought we tested and was out of the way, then had a problem with crank sensor failure & a coil.....
I hope it s nothing else, I getting a little it paranoid there....
Bottom line is the DME relay could fail even in your glove box, it 's only guaranty to work by Porsche for 5 years I think...best is to keep one in the glove box but also I will make up some wires to replace the DME , knowing this will certainly work with the downside of the pump fuel working all the time, so needed the wires or batterie to be disconnected when stoping the car....
Crossed fingers....
Thanks for your comments

The DME jumper lead I made lives in my fusebox. I've never had to use it but along with a spare DME Relay it's there just in case.

For others information: Think of a McDonalds 'm' logo
mlogo_bigger_normal.jpg
with a male spade connector on each of the three lower points.

After removing the DME relay in the fusebox the three spades connect terminals 87 to 87b to 30(+12v). Basically the three widest slots where the DME was.

*This is only a 'get you home' fix as it will make your fuel pump continuously, even when the ignition is off, so you'll have to disconnect the jumper lead as soon as you stop the car.

Or fit a relay to make it remotely switchable. A working DME relay would be perfect. [;)]

Yes absolutely correct !

A switch in the wires is a good idea ,

I have an emergency cut off in the front boot near the battery, ...
