30 days and counting!

Popped in the my dealer today to ask if my car had a production date yet and it does. Turns out my May build will be complete 7th May so thats the first week, not the last week as I had set my expectations for! Dealer said I should be able to take delivery some time w/c 14th May.

WOO HOO.... 3 weeks early!!!

Suddenly it all feels very real and I will be counting the days for sure now.

So thought I'd list my spec just for the hell of it... :

997 C2S
Basalt Black
Black Leather
Aerokit
19" Turbo Wheels
PSE
Sport seats
Heated seats
Porsche crest on headrests
Sat Nav
Bose
Seat belts in Guards Red
Rear section centre console in Aluminium
ParkAssist
Auto dimming mirrors / rain sensor
Mats

I am one giddy kipper [:)]

Now to start arranging a trade-in / buyer for the M3 cab - am prepared for the smile to be wiped off my face again next week when the dealer begins the process of lowball offers for it. [:(]

I spent some time with Porsche and their SAP partners, MHP, in Zuffenheusen last year looking at their computer systems, in particular the order promising side. At the time they were really pleased with the accuracy of the promises they were giving to customers, so now you have a date I doubt it will move. There is quite a science around planning which car is built in which slot on the line.

Its a great feeling - enjoy!

Regards
Neil

Great news Adam, I have a friend who is still waiting for his order.. if his came early he'd be quite happy also..
looks like a great spec you've done.

Sadly the trade in is normally the most painful time, it certainly was for me...
At least having a cab, the good weather of recent may help that little bit more.[:D]

Hopefully we may see you out on one of the Register events and main club day..[;)]

Congratulations on a great spec.

Re trade-in I tried (successfully) moving my 4year old S-Type online via Autotrader. It took just one week and costs about £15/week, although I did pay for a second week the day before a buyer turned-up [&:]. The secret is to include lots of pictures, exterior, interior under the bonnet, wheels etc. and include a comprehensive description of how well you have looked after it and list all the non-standard options and costs Although it doesn't cost any more to do this suprisingly few sellers especially trade take the time to provide this info. But most importantly price it competitively, undercut other private sellers you will still do better than trade-in- I did around £2k better[:D].

Very nice spec - welcome to the dark side:ROFLMAO:

Basalt Black to colour to have, I think the turbo wheels look really good with the aerokit in black [:D] - almost went for that myself until a) realsied how much I'd already spent and b) was vetod by the financial cotnroller because she does't like spoilers too much.[]

PSE is a must the car sounds sooo much better with it.[:)]

You just missed two good bits, short shifter (personal taste) and the x51 powerkit - Both you can fit aftermarket. i'll let Yves indoctrinate you on the powerkit.

Hope to see the beast at a 997 event in the near future

Thanks for all your kind comments re the spec. I know that both the aerokit and turbo wheels can be unpopular with a lot of 997 owners, but both me (and perhaps more importantly) my better half love them both - and together with Basalt I hope that the car is going to look real mean and agressive.

As for X51, I agonised long and hard over this but in the end the cost of it got the better of me on the decision. I have decided to learn to get to use the S first then I will consider adding X51 at a later date if I feel I need more. The 997S already feels like a step up in performance over the M3, and I didnt want to give up on any of the other selections in favour of X51 - both aero and sat nav would have to go to part cover the cost as they are the most expensive options I have chosen, but both were "must haves" for me.

And sports shifter - I havnt driven one (unless the GT3 RS that I drove on my Milbrook day had it - not sure????), but the standard shift felt great to me so I am happy with that for now.

I will post pics ofc as soon as it arrives... I still cant believe that its 3, maybe even 4 week early.

Deffo interested in attending the events but as we are based up north (Leeds area), then we will prob limit ourselves to the regional gatherings for now.

Im not so sure about selling the M3 Cab used thats all. I reckon (hope maybe) that its worth in the low 30K's and that is an awful lot of cash to take from "Joe Public" - seems to have risk written all over it. Im tempted to put it on pistonheads but Im not sure that is any better than autotrader etc really. I expect cars in this price band to be very difficult to shift privately...?

You may be right £30k is certainly a lot more than I was looking for re the S-Type but for a few quid it may be worth a shot. Just follow the security guidelines on Autotrader, don't let the car go before cleared cash is in your bank account and download a copy of the AA sales contract i.e essentilly "sold as seen" and it's pretty well problem free. Whatever, you decide best of luck - you'll soon forget about trade-in losses once you get behind the wheel of your new car [;)].

Big step in reality Adam ( I had one previous to the C2S and loved it to bits too ), the on paper 0-62mph figures are only a miniscule part of the difference, although significant enough, the Porsche is a lot faster in the real world and so much more special.

Welcome

If you and your better half like an option thats all that matters - Personal view remains the aero kit and turbo wheels go fab together with Basalt black. Enjoy! Looking forward to seeing the photos online

Yves - fair point "enlighten". the x51 is another step up the performance ladder over the staright 997S, feels much faster with a lot more poke around the 4000-6000 rev range

Yves have you run yours in yet?

Well, Ive contacted the dealer today and the lowball offer was forthcoming as expected. My moral for trade-in's is : think of a figure, round down and prepare to be dissapointed. In this case, prepare to be gutted would have been more like. Still I have called round a few BMW dealers and been offered £1300 more than the OPC trade in so not so bad. Still its a crime to give it away at under £30k for a May-05 SMG M3 Cab with only 8000 miles on the clock. [:(][:(][:(]

Better hope that the 997S is as good as I remember to shake away the tears... I dread to think how painful the trade in on the Porsche is going to be 2-3 years down the line...

Jamie - Thanks for the offer of your services, but at the moment I plan to be a cash buyer. If however you can show me a rate so low with no penalties that I can invest the cash, pay tax on it and still make a profit, then I might reconsider. PM me if you can and I will call you to discuss.

Cheers

Adam, please excuse my butting in here but sometimes I can't stop myself [&:]. What you're talking about here is a leveraged investment opportunity - the car purchase is an irrelevance. If you can borrow money at a rate that is less than a potential, risk discounted, net return then why wouldn't you - if fact why wouldn't anyone?

Allan

Yup, I agree... I had the same offer last time on the BMW, but the "saving" was only about £300 a year on about £15k (if I remember correctly) and compared to the hassle of taking finance on the car and maybe wanting to pay it off early it didnt seem worth it to me so I gave it a miss that time. Its deffo a possibility though these days - car finance can be extreemly low rate and what with the high rate investment accounts its feasable even taking tax into account.

Yes and no.

It doesnt need any more mollycoddling but I have got my mental rev limiter set at 6000rpm for another 250 miles at which point I will have put 1000 miles on it since the work was done.

Am I imagining it or does PSE 'develop' its sound over time ? sure mine sounds sweeter each time I drive it....
