300% insurance excess hike for track days

Got my insurance renewal from A Manning. Good news: annual premium down by nearly GBP 100 to approx GBP 450. Bad news: the excess for track days has gone up from GBP 1,500 to 10% of the value of the vehicle, i.e. approx GBP 6,000! The policy offered is with Allianz.

Rang my previous insurers (Performance Marque) and (in addition to their premium being more than Manning's) they too quoted a track day excess of GBP 6,000, presumably also 10% of the GBP 60,000 vehicle value I mentioned. I think they said the policy they were offering was with Royal & Sun Alliance.

If any of you have had renewal notices recently, have you too had your track day excess rocket up? I haven't had a claim, accident or whatever for 10years +, so I'm guessing that the insurance industry may have decided that track days offs are costing it too much.

This seems now to be consistent across the industry. I suspect it's down to the relatively small number of underwriters operating in this space - all now seem to require a 10% excess on track. Some were already at this level and it now appears that the rest of the industry has come into line. My experience mirrors yours - reduced overall premium but higher on-track excess (through Hagerty).

Trackdays are becoming an increasingly expensive hobby...............

Have you not tried using the likes of Heritage classic insurance? Their quotes are really competetive and include cover for club organised trackdays that you are a member of [;)]

Just renewed with A Manning. Same thing. Think they've just fallen in line with everyone else..... or maybe they had their fingers burnt after last years dodgems at the ring in November.....[;)]

Thanks Chaps

I rang Aon today and their track day excess is 10% too. Has been for a while so they said.

Then tried Heritage. They had a no claims discount (NCD) earning 'normal' policy that was very cheap but no track day cover. They also had a 'classic' policy with track day cover for which the track day excess increases by GBP 1,000 over the normal GBP 600, provided it is a PCGB track day. Because though it is a classic policy it doesn't keep up one's NCD of course (which lapses after 2 years), nor can one's existing NCD be protected whils on the classic policy.

Still not found the ideal solution then. Will probably just renew with ManningUK and try to behave myself on track days.
