I have to say I get a bit fed up with the recent trend in the car magazines to present these experiences with late development cars as 'tests'.

There have been examples of some of the Jaguar and Land Rover products where the journalist has only been a passenger and hasn't even driven.

After the pre development test, there will be the official launch in some foreign country where 'the roads are not really comparable to the UK so we can't really make a judgement'. Eventually some driving impressions in the UK and maybe a comparison test against one or more of the new cars competitors. That's when you eventually get some more objective feedback on what the journalists really think.

There have been many glowing reviews for cars that have been through this process, only for them to fall at the final hurdle when set against the class benchmark.

It all seems to be part of the marketing campaign for the manufacturers and a way for the car magazines to increase circulation. The problem is I am still buying the magazines so maybe it is me who is the mug [:-].
