I looking into buying or building a modified 356 with uprated engine and brakes. Is there any members that have gone down this route . I currently run a 997 GT3 CS which I will look to sell as I am missing the old air cooled buzz.. Also what sort of price are modified 356 going for. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks Chris

Hi Chris , yes , I have gone down the 356 Outlaw route !
I wanted an early car , preferably an A or pre A , but with upgraded mechanicals that could keep up with modern traffic.
I looked for a few years after selling my 964RS in late 2011 , so had experienced the top end of aircooled !
I ended up with flying out to Australia early this year and buying a 1955 356 Continental with a 912 engine . box and 356C wheels brakes suspension , it had also been converted to RHD to complete the crimesheet for purists :ROFLMAO:

You should budget for 60- 100k sterling if you want something already done rather than a project .

I love the look of your car. Thanks for the heads up on price. I wasn't sure how they were thought as it is customising an old classic. But I love the look of the A but wanted a more modern drive. Is it a major job to convert to rhd as the american import tends to have less tin worm
thanks for your information
regards Chris

most of the outlaws seemed to be based on the a or pre a

I think there are quite a few based on post 1959 cars , ie Bs and Cs . There were more of these later cars made , and the B in particular was the least valuable model if we are talking coupes .
As for RHD conversion , it is not entirely straightforward , recommend you talk with Paul Smith at PRS to get a feel for the issues. It can have an adverse effect on value.

I think you need to make your mind up whether to have a car customised to your spec , ie start with a project -basis car , or look for one already done . The most expensive part of a 356 to put right is the body , go look at the ddk-online forum where there are a number of 356 restoration threads .......

John, not only is it gorgeous but it has a "mean" fast look-so how quick is it-when you say you wanted something to keep up with modern traffic?

Thanks for appreciating a 356 , it feels nice to drive as well as looking cool inside too .
I get scared at 100mph as the front end feels light , plus you are not allowed to go that fast on public highway in UK .....so keep it down to 80 sir [8|]
