I have just bought a old 911 motor, semi built, the fan strap says SC, ive just noticed the heads have twin spark plugs, what model would this of been any ideas? the no. on the heads are 964 104 2956r and 2201287 or B7 the valves are 50mm on inlet and 45mm on exhaust the ID of the bore on barrels are 95mm Cheers Darren

Is that your £140 engine, you lucky so and so? Anyhow, few more questions...

1. Has it ever ran
2. Any idea what type of cams?
3. carbs, mfi or k-jet?

We'll find it out....

;)

I thought the 964 3.6 litre engine was the first road car from Porsche to be fitted with twin spark plugs. The "964" heads would tend to corroborate that. Is there an engine number stamped on the right side of the alternator mount??

Dave

I am going to guess it's not a 964 engine from the piston sizes. 95mm pistons used with a 70.4mm crank was the standard 3.0 SC configuration so it may well be a SC bottom end with 964 heads used to give a twin spark conversion. Anything pre 964 with a twin spark conversion would indicate a tuned engine.

Crankcase number and engine type number stamped on it would give a good clue.

Ian.

The 964's were the first OEM twin plug engines. Therefore it is something someone has done. Thats quite an expensive so so you've found a good one there
