Has anyone used 3M Paint Protection and would they advise on getting it on my 987 Boxster?

I haven't used it but IMHO the money is better spent on a front end respray as an when required.

JCB..

I had it on my 2000 Boxster which I just sold and am having it put on my 05 Boxster S. I love it.

I was told today by a non 3m dealer that it would cost UK£500 which is a lot! Is is worth thta much?

I was considering Paintshield but I'm having second thoughts on whether I can be bothered to get it put on (don't like the lines it makes) but its better than stone chips and I don't like the idea of a respray as the quality of job is variable to say the least.

Still a bit undecided.

My local dealer (Newcastle) said £300 for the front end after winter.

Lots of layers of wax and crossed fingers is my choice [:D]

HI what Lines were you concerned about as the only one that causes any of our customers concerns is the bonnet line as depending on your car you should not see any lines at all on the bumper.

The lines (the bit where the covering stops) seem to be more evident on darker cars and mine will be Seal Grey, still not sure if I'm going to get it put on, I'm a bit anal over stone chips though so I might after all.

When I got my Boxster it had Armourfend across the bonnet, bumpers and around the headlights. Because it's a dark colour (Ocean Blue) it's very obvious and made the whole front end of the car look dull. I've removed the piece from the bonnet and I'm considering the rest too (It's bloody hard to get off so it's not a job to take lightly). Note that the protection can only do so much - there are still stone chips where the Armourfend was, and frankly I'd rather spend the money having the nose resprayed than putting paint protection on. Also, keeping your distance from the traffic in front tends to keep stone chipping reasonably in check.

If you give the 3M film a wash with Isopropyl alcohol (or rubbing alcohol) neat not diluted it will almost always bring the Gloss back also if you wax the film when you wax the car this should almost never be needed! As for removal if you know how its relatively easy as with all things there is a trick to it. If anyone wants to know how give me a call at the office.

Best Wishes
