3rd brake light above rear windscreen

Hi all,

My 1997 993 C2 coupe came with the 'wing' that runs along the top edge of the rear windscreen and which in some cars accommodates an additional brake light. Mine doesn't but the wiring is there for the light and there's a 'dummy' section in the middle of the bracket under the wing that can be removed to accommodate a light. So, I thought it might be nice to add the light and duly got one from local OPC. However, what I noticed when I tried to fit the light was that removal of the 'dummy' section left a gap with squared-off ends, whereas the light itself has curved ends, leaving a pretty big gap around the light. So the light does not fit the bracket.

So, has anyone else come across such a bracket with squared-off ends, which would suggest that once upon a time Porsche supplied a light with squared-off ends to fit it? I am guessing that I will have to try a new bracket (or just give up; this was supposed to be a 15-minute job!).

Look forward to any thoughts!

Cheers,

I can probably take a better picture tomorrow when the light is better. Here is my 96 coupe.

Hi Andy,

I have a 1996 Carrera coupe with the same issue. Spoiler fitted to top of rear window with a blanking plate for the third brake light and wiring ready to go.

I bought a third brake light and just like you found that it left a significant gap at each end. Sadly, I don't have a resolution either.

I was thinking of modifying the holder to fill the gap but as yet I have not attempted this.

Good luck,

Alex

Photographing a Midnight Blue car up close is rather challenging! Fortunately able to over expose the pictures using Photoshop to highlight the profile. This is on a 96 coupe that came with the high brake light from the factory.

It is always a little tricky decoding the PET but it looks like there are two part numbers for the part with the cutout.

993.504.455.02 Reinforcing support M602 (Raised Stoplamp).
993.504.455.03 Reinforcing support

I wonder if they have a slightly different cutout? Can you see a part number on what you have?

My previous 993C4 had the same 'issue'. I used some black household draft excluder to fill the gap due to the curved profile of the light bar.
