3rd Brake light Installation

Guest

New member
Hi,

I have been considering having the 3rd brake light installed, however on speaking to my independent they advised me to have the spoiler type fitted and not the rear screen type. Apparently there has been issues with the rear screen cracking[] after installation due to heat etc and the fact that the cables are passed through the screen rubbers?? He also said that I need to have the correct screen already fitted? how will I know this?[]

Is this really a BIG problem? as I also want to fit a lip spoiler but obviously this would look stupid with the brake light spoiler to.

Help pls

(Before anyone shouts I did read the other post but it didn't answer my questions[:)])

targa is a bit different so I ended up retro fitting s custom 3rd light at the base of the inside of the rear window..

Pete.

I know the screens for cars with the 3rd brake light have a mat black strip about 2 inches wide printed on the inside of the glass at the top (so you can't see the back of the third brake light from inside the car). Plus in the middle top of the window on the inside if you pull the window rubber back slightly (glass side) you will see two metal strips printed over the mat black bit with two wires soldered on.

This might help too http://p-car.com/diy/glass/

PS have got your email now back from hols so will respond.

Ian,

I have the 2in black edge and I have looked under the outside rear seal in the middle and found 2 wires 1 black and 1 brown I presume these are for the 3rd brake light they look like they have been silicon at the ends.

So if you have the wires on the inside as I described as well it sounds like you are good and set. I imagine they silicon the ends of the outside wires to stop them shorting out if they are not connected.

Ian.
