3rd Brake light problem

Hi,
JZ have just installed a 3rd brake light spoiler on my 993 and have encountered the following problem.

The lights are very dim as they say the resistance is high in the connection they have used above the rear screen (where the connectors are?)..The rear screen was replaced at somepoint and the replacement has been set with too much bonding.
They say that to see why there is alot of resistance, they'll have to take out the rear screen!

Is there not some other more simple solution?? The brake lights work fine so why is this fault occuring?

I trust JZ and like their work, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks [8|]

I retrofitted a custom 3rd brake light in the bottom of the rear window of my 993 targa.. have yet to post pics !

as i didn't like the hoop spiler 3rd brake light and as it's a Targa I can't fit a the top spoiler type as per the coupe.... I think my own solution is a very good indeed.....[;)]

Hi Maurice,

Thanks for replying so quickly.

Well, he wanted to take the screen out so he can see the condition of the wiring that apparently is fed through there to the top where all the connections are. The reasoning is that maybe it has corroded and thats why there's a weak current coming up and being fed into the spoiler brake light.

Other brake lights are both nice and bright yes...and work fine. I'm assuming they've done the other checks you mention being JZ.

I was thinking along the lines of taking the brake signal from somewhere else, the possibility of wiring it up from another point perhaps??!

Jonas is back in on Monday, so any suggestions before I chat to him would be great. (I have the car back home now)

Have a look at the information in this link http://p-car.com/diy/glass/ which talks about how the system is wired. I am not sure if this is your exact problem but at least it will give you the understanding of the setup to ask more knowledgeble questions.

Hasan,

when my OPC fitted the 3rd B/L to my '95 993 the B/L didn't work either. I found that the wire was broken> it had broken at the top where the wire goes from inside to outside. To fix it I fed a piece of stiff wire (like a coathanger) through from inside to out with a new piece of electrical wire on it, soldered up inside, connected to the B/L and then applied silicone rubber to ensure the seal from inside to out was good.

Good job, didn't have tp pay anyone to take the screen out with all the cost. aggro and poetntial damage issues
