4 weeks into ownership........ Oh dear!

Borehole

New member
So I picked up my 2009 gen 2 C4S about 4 weeks ago. 35,000 miles with full main dealer history. Amazing 3 weeks of ownership and then 3 weeks ago it developed a rattle, cue proper concerned face. Took it straight to my local specialist and after usual checks it was obvious coming from the last bank. We scoped it and there is scoring in chamber 1, yes apparently bore scored on gen2 engine. Now I thought this was a gen1 thing but obviously everyone was just joking . I have a warranty but the claim limit isn't going to cover a rebuild, supplying Independant specialist is being good so far, but as you can imagine I'm just a little bit shell shocked. Obviously until the engine is out and apart I'm not going to know what has actually happened, time will tell. Numbers quoted for re-build or new engine are all rather sobering and I'm missing the car like crazy.

The images from the scope show scoring but they may be the result of something getting into the engine, but it seems unlikely. The cars history is all OPC's and it's only been into rev range 1, so I was hoping the car was tip top, turns out its not.

Will update once I know more.

Yours, properly concerned and pi##ed off of Devon.

Sorry to hear about this, I think we were all hoping that it had disappeared with Gen 2 cars, yours is the first Ive heard of.

Irrespective of your warranty the independant will have to fix it under the Sale of Goods act and recover what they can from the warranty company and Porsche GB.

Good luck.

Had a new engine in one of mine due to scoring. Sounds like the selling dealer needs to sort it. Hope it goes well.

Very sorry to hear this.

I am sure you have already done so but it is important to flag this up immediately with the supplier and establish a Sale of Goods Act intention if they appear to drag their heels on this.
Can't remember the Small Claims Court figure now but it may just be enough to cover a repair/rebuild. If it was me I would definitely involve a Solicitor as the correct procedure is vital from the start.

To Magic919. That's interesting that you had a replacement to a gen2 engine due to scoring, as everyone I speak to assures me that this has never happened to a gen2 engine!!

tscaptain. No it was purchased from an independent specialist rather than an OPC, however so far they are making all the right noises.

John Maddox. Thanks for all the advice, done all you have mentioned so far and have a solicitors at work who are well up to speed. Still doesn't help with the disappointed feeling unfortunately!!

Problems with Gen 2 engines remain extremely rare. My OPC had only repaired one before they pulled mine apart.

Hope you get sorted.
