I fully agree, everyone I have had goes out of alignment, timescales obviously depends on how hard you drive and the condition of the roads. It affects the handling no end. My current 996tt went out within 4500 miles, so it is worth getting it checked on a regular basis. It also improves tyre wear, first rear set 4500 and really worn particularly on inside edges, after allignment 5500 miles on next set , changed at the wear bars and tyres fairly evenly worn across the tread. (Also my car is running more negative camber as it has the -20mm turbo sports suspension).
 
Had full geometry at Redline Racing at £220 , the improvement to driving experience is
impressive,and well worth the cost.
 
Hi, had 996 C4 cab done at Colchester and it got rid of that last little vibration through the steering wheel. Recommended.

I had my four wheel alignment done just over a year ago, ive coverd around 6000-7000 miles since then. Is it due now fellas?
 
Should be fine until you feel the performance around the bends is starting to suffer or the car is feeling a bit jittery!
 
I haven`t got around to getting mine done yet, but the tyres are wearing evenly and have done 7k miles since being fitted. Front ones still like new and rears about half worn so can`t be that far out I guess.
 
Dave what tyres are you using? Rears half worn at 7k miles. I wish!! I only just managed a bit more than that out of the fronts. Mine are Contis. I would like to get back onto Michelins but am too tight to throw away part worn tyres and am trying to get to a pont where I need all four at same time. But if I got your tyre wear I would probably be better off changing all four.
 
Rintoul, I have Michelin Pilot Sports on, they were expensive at £800 a set but I find they are the cheapest in the long term. My 993C2 was on Continentals and they only used to last about 8k on the rear. Most of the mileage has been on the motorway so that would probably explain why I get good mileage out of them. Fronts still have 7mm tread and rears 6mm.

I have the same tyres on the 968 and the rears have done over 13k, I do drive this car more "enthusiastically" some of the time as well as all the motorway miles. They will probably need to be changed in the next 2-3k.

i sold my 996 c4s today and bought a 996 turbo, but when i drove it it seemed much more "jittery" than my c4s, though i do have GT2 wheels and tires on my c4s, also, the front felt "high" and unless i am mistaken, it pulled ever so slightly to the left when i hoofed it in second gear,

so, geometrys need setting? or any suggestions?

If you bought it from an OPC it should have had a geometry check done as part of the 11 point checking system. If you have bought it elsewhere I would definitely get it done just to ensure everything it straight and as it should be. This will ensure handling is spot on and will also ensure tyre wear is kept to a minimum. I can't say I have ever noticed mine pulling excessively either way although it does spin all four wheels particularly in the wet, something my previous Carrera 4,s never really did, but the TT does have half as much power again (X50). All my previous (and existing) 911s have become "jittery" as you describe it, when the alignment has gone out.(which they all do sooner or later, depending upon the road surfaces and how hard you drive). My wifes John Cooper Works S, darts about more, (but is totally controllable). I notice Gordons opening thread talks of £100+vat. That sounds excellent value, my last one cost £205 (OPC) then they had a problem with the bolts so that double it! (Great on a 3 year old car and suspension not cover by the warranty).
