40,000 Maintenance

Hi all,

I have a 2005 997 cab, its done 42,345 miles. it was serviced in 2009 and was down as a minor maintance job on the porsche book and cost the owner at the time about £1,200.00.

When i bought the car the independant dealer said to me that it had, had its major service in 2009, and when i came to service it this year( i bought it last summer) that it would only need a minor service. However the book says that it had a minor maintnenace job in 2009.

Does that mean the car dealer swindled me into thinking i would only need a minor maintance when in reality i need a major one?

If so what sort of cost are we looking at?

Cheers.

This service which was carried in 2009 - if you know it cost £1200 do you have the paperwork from it? Unless it had a lot of other non service work carried out that sounds like it was a 4year/40k service to me and they just stamped the book incorrectly. If you know who did it they would have a record of the work I would think - it's only 2 years back.
Presumably you also checked the service record when you bought the car.......?

from the maintenance record booklet, in 2009, it has a tick in th minor maintenance box and crosses against the major maintenance box , spark plugs box and drive belt box. at that time it had done 27,000 miles .

i have seen the invoice for the maintannce it was from strasse porsche specialist in leeds. they did the following work:

Carry out minor serive, change engine oil and filter check

all brakes supply & fit new set front brake pads supply & fit new set of wiper blades, check all lights & fluid levels, remove gearbox & clutch
assesmbly supply & fit.

parts

1 x oil filter
engine fluch
fuel conditioner
screen wash
waste disposal
8.5lts mobil 1
1x set wiper blades
1x clutch
1 set fr brake pads

Ah, I see, so it was the clutch that put the price up to £1200. It should have had a 4 year service irrespective of the mileage - you can ony speculate why they did a minor service. I would contact them and ask the question.

If the dealer knew that the car had a minor service in 2009 instead of the major, and told you otherwise, then a) yes, he lied and b) why didn't you check and question what was stamped in the book?

If it didn't have a proper 4year/40k service in 2009 then it would be a good idea to get it done now.

Indies will be different!

i went to porsche bolton, as my water pump was leaking and they fixed it, they did a diagnostics test and told me that my front and rear disk would need replacing soon, having looked at the prices, im guessing that is why he had a minor service. i should have looked properly really, but i was too excited about getting it, lesson learnt me thinks.

Minor or major service I'm sure an OPC would have said about the discs- Its the customers choice to have them done or not...
I'd of thought at 40K they would be nearing the end of their life..

Twice over if driven properly...... or is that me just trying to keep up with you Gary......[8D]

On a serious note - as per everyone else's comments - years minor service, 4 year major service or 40k - whichever comes first. So it sounds like some one, owner or garage was either cutting corners or ticking the wrong boxes. From your notes on line, it looks like cutting corners - not good for a Porsche.

Obviously im going to get a major service in fact its going in tomos. i can seem me spending a lot of money on the car.

Would the lack of major servcing at the recommened time affect me when selling the car which i intend on doing in a coupleof months? bearing in mind that i will have just had a major service done?

If you mean servicing the car late and out of the correct schedule of 2 years/20k miles then yes it will put off some buyers. Why wait, make sure you get it serviced at the correct time old son!
