40 minute races for German Cars

The CSCC are to build on the success of their "Future Classics" series for Pre-1990 Sports, Saloons & GT Cars and introduce a new series for 2011. The series, to be known as "Deutsche Marque" will be for Post-1990 German car makes and will feature 3 classes: A - Up to 2499cc, B - 2500cc to 2999cc and up to 1999cc Turbocharged cars and C - Over 3000cc.

The series has come about due to the large demand that the club has had for post 1990 cars to be able to race in the existing "Future Classics" series, the majority of requests being from German car owners. It wasn't possible to add a newer class into FC as the grids were already full so a new series has been created.

The usual CSCC stipulations of standard size and shape body shell, no sequential gear boxes, original engines to type and List 1A or 1B tyres will be maintained. Races will run over 40 minutes with a compulsory pit stop for one or two drivers.

CSCC hope to attract owners of the larger engined VW Golfs, Ventos, Corrados & Beetles etc. along with Porsche 968s, 993s, 996s, Boxsters, Audi TT & A4s etc, BMW 3 & 5 series and similar Mercedes (although Porsche GT3s won't be allowed....too quick!). The club will display a "Deutsche Marque" car on its stand at the Autosport International show in January and further details of the series will be available on the CSCC Website shortly.

Wow sounds fantastic Andy. I would be very surprised if this is not a roaring success. Nice as well that owners of a 968 race car have got more than one outlet for their car racing fixes [:)].

RE the comment about GT3s you could well get all sorts of 993 based machinery that is potentially as quick if not quicker still. I haven't seen a gt2 evo in years but I can recall seeing one racing at Donny about 10 years back in the British GT championship. That car was properly awesome. Would be great to see them on track again.

The CSCC Deutsche Marque Regs for 2012 are out now & can be found here:

The club have made some changes to the series regs. The series grew well in 2011 with a high point of 19 cars at Silverstone, not bad for a series in its first year, but feedback from competitors and potential competitors has led to a few slight changes to try to encourage even more cars out, particularly smaller capacity cars and cars with nearer standard power outputs.

The main changes are:

1. German cars (inc Opels etc) of any age are allowed to compete (previously it was 1990 onwards)
2. BMW minis are now allowed in (in both naturally aspirated and forced induction form)
3. Turbo cars are now allowed in up to 2.5 litres (it was previously limited to 2 litres turbo)
4. 1.8 litre VAG Turbo powered cars will now be allowed in the up to 3 litre class (previously they were over 3 litres).
5 The class structure has been revised as follows (Class A & B are new):
Class structure:
Class A - Up to 1600cc normally aspirated
Class B - 1601cc to 1800cc normally aspirated
Class C - 1801cc to 2499cc normally aspirated
Class D - 2500cc to 2999cc including VAG 1800 Turbos and forced induction BMW Mini Cooper.
Class E - up to 3000cc models with variable valve timing as a standard feature including 3 litre BMW M3 and Porsche 968
Class F- 3000cc and over including Porsche 944 Turbo and BMW 3.2 Evo
Class I - Invitation Class. (Not eligible for awards)

Porsche GT2 and GT3 are specifically excluded from the series as are all cars prepared to BMWRDC Kumho Championship Classes A to D technical regulations.

Class C is now the ideal place for the older 2.5 litre 944s and 924S
Class D remains the place to be in an S2
Class F is the place to be if you have a 968 or Boxster S and
Class F is now the place to be if you have a 944 Turbo

Remember that you can also race your 924 or 944 in the sister " Future Classic" series.

I think he must have meant E.

Interesting that the 944 turbo is in. Would still be great to see someone take a turbo on from where Mark left it.

Yes, Class E for 968s, sorry.

I hope that the changes encourage a few 944Ts to join the fray (as well as a few of the VAG turbos!)

Looks interesting. Had a quick look at the regs and looks like u must run with headlights but can run with fibre glass bonnet and wings, and replace the glass (it doesn't say you can't in the brief overview I saw). Is that right? And is there a minimum weight?
Thanks
Mark

CSCC went round this one before, ISTR that for the 944/968 you could run without the OEM headlights but have to have MSA compliant running lights anyway. Same as for PCGB club championship basically.

I don't ever recall there being a minimum weight. One of the S2's that I know of was 80 Kg lighter than mine for example.

Man its sooo tempting to put a turbo motor in mine at some point and get the weight down under 1050 kg.

Best person to ask about all this stuff is Kevin Eacock at EMC motorsport.

Neil is correct about the lights - can run to the same lights regs as in PCGB series, so the pop up head lights in 944/68/28 can be removed as long as the running lights remain.

No min weight in any CSCC series.

Would I be able to race my 993 RSR in tnis series.

I think so but the best thing to do is to contact the CSCC to clarify. The person to contact is either Hugo Holder, the club's Competition Director at: Hugo@classicsportscarclub.co.uk or the DM series co-ordinator at stephanie@classicsportscarclub.co.uk

Have you looked at the series regs? Available here: http://www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk/deutschemarque.htm

They are essentially very simple in order to try to encourage as many cars out as possible within the requirements of each series. The main points are:

Original TYPE of Engine
No sequential gearboxes
Standard size and shape bodyshells (any aero must have been available as a factory option. Panels & glass can be replaced with lighter alternatives but must be standard size & shape for the model)
