44 coming home, at last...........

Well I have been without my car since beg of September ( I know how you feel now Paul, being without LiL for so long!!!)

Decided last summer to have some serious bits of work done [:(]

The body was getting a bit tired as they do around the sills and arches etc and with various other bits that needed attending to I decided to get everything done, within reason.

So off she went:[:(]

First was the body, windscreen out and then painting commenced. Roof, sills. front drivers wing, new drivers door, bonnet, badge panel, headlight lids and around the rear hatch pin areas. Then teardrop mirrors from a 993 with necessary bases. New door seals and window scrapers and rear window mouldings which were all going flacky. Then new set of stone guards, tailgate struts and rear hatch seal along with new bonnet badge and stainless door sill guards.

Whilst at this I had the calipers checked for plate lift, cleaned, blasted and repainted in red along with new stainless hoses.
Also ended up having to have rear axle dropped and new brake pipes, fuel lines and rear brake pads fitted at the same time.

Then I decided to fit a HID kit,to try and sort out the poor lighting, so fingers crossed there.

Along with a whole heap of other bits, A/C Pipe that was leaking, fuel sender that went faulty, steering shaft, CV boot and offside engine mount worn.

So I kept wanting to jump for joy to say it was returning, but due to a few complications, the time scales have been getting knocked back.

I am off to pick it up on wednesday this week and cannot wait, as rightly or wrongly I just left it to be sorted and have not been back to see it since.

Will get some pics of the newly spruced up body in the week, although I may just drive it for a month none stop first.[:D]

Here is to a lovely summer now so I can drive it [:)]

Fantastic news Lee [:)] Nautic is not a common colour on 944's so I can't wait to see what she looks like all spruced up like new. The wait will be worth it I'm sure, though September is hardly any time at all [;)]

Lee, as Paul commented - lovely spec your 944tS, it is good to see these cars being properly maintained / preserved.

One day a car like that will be back into 5 figures ÂŁvalue, - I guess with the cost of maintaining them properly they need to.......[8|]

You do many miles per annum?, use it daily?

Hi George.

I do no more than 3,000 miles at the moment, althougth only did around 2,000 in the last 12 months due to the work being done on the car.

And yes Mrs Lemon is very very easy going Dico re my car!! Which is just aswell [:D]

Will now try and make it to one or two more events and hopefully the rollers of truth that I missed back end of last year to see how the Level 2 kit I have fitted is doing.

The rollers of truth are no more [:(]. Hopefully it will be possible to find an alternative venue so that the tradition can continue.

Yes and they have been dug out of the ground too [:(]

My car is going to be tested on another Dyno Dynamics machine next week and it will be interesting to see just how close to the Weltmeister one it is. If they are indeed truly comparable then there is another Dyno Dynamics site in Milton Keynes that we could use as a fairly central site for '944 Dyno 2008' [:)]

Paul, we can use 'em if your car does not dig them out of the ground .....[8|]

An honest reference Dyno is important, - I gave up listening to people with 500hp Vectra's and 150mph Cortina's long ago.

Look forward to your Numbers

Well picked it up [:D] I had forgotten how bloody quick it is , Fantastic, huge smile on my face all the way home. [:D]

Unfortunately they forgot to fit the HID Kit!!! So do that another time and a few other little niggly things still need sorting, but generally it looks amazing. I wish I had painted the PU at the same time as it looks much darker than the rest of the new paint (had been painted before and was not a brilliant match). Will get this done some other time.

And some how I have ended up with 2 brand new OE wings fitted (repair of originals was not looking brilliant) aswell for a special deal [;)]. So thats the bonnet, both wings, badge panel and light lids. And of course roof and rear badge panel into the hatch, with both sills. They have also touched in and polished rest of body, so now looks A1 [:)]

Here it is, good excuse to bore everyone with a few initial pictures:

Lee, if you don't mind me asking, who did you use for the work, as i need some bits and bobs sorting on the stonechipped sill panels and lower front wing areas and I see you are not that far from me?

Thanks

Hi Nick

I did not use a local firm in the end, as I needed some mechanical bits doing as well.

I ended up at Porsche Shop in Halesowen. Not local I know, but they use a local guy for the paint prep and build up and prepare bodywork at their premises. They were also able to do all the mechanical bits at the same time that I needed doing.

I was going to use a local bodyshop to me to do the sills originally in Holylake as they had done a few 44's and were reasonably cheap.

I did get a quote from Ninemeister and although I was sure their work would be amazing, I just could not justify the "Guchi" price tag that came with it.

Let me know if you need any other info or if you want to look at the work I have had done so far.

Cheers

Lee

Excellent. The car looks lovely, even with the bridge spoiler [;)]
I was hoping to pick mine up this weekend - it has been at Specialised Paintwork in Reading for the last couple of weeks, having 2 new sills and repairs to both front wings. Unfortunately I have just heard it wont be ready for another few days [&o]. But I am assured I will be able to pick it up in time for Frontrunner [:D]
