4S - Total 911 Feature

I don't know how many members saw this months Total 911 and the buying guide to a 993 4S
What a pleasure to see the rather gorgeous and uncommon 4S featured.
Produced in relatively low numbers (181) to make them un-common yet "affordable" and still desirable, compared to the greater produced but admittedly wonderful Turbo.
The car featured is mine - which since purchasing has been carefully brought up to spec by the very capable team Andy and Stuart at SCS in Honiton, Devon.
With a thorough inspection and "any parts necessary" overhaul completed I have a great car no faults or niggles - " sorted" and made even greater. looking forward to the summer and some R15 meetings.

I have attached a photo from the feature...a good read

See you on the R15 Spring drive?

I was always under the impression it was closer tp 230-ish for the UK... where does that table come from..?

Production figures seem widely quoted - i found this reference to POCB - 993 forum
http://www.porkers.co.uk/topic.asp?t=557304&f=48&h=0
however I can't find any reference to 230 ish

No worries. .. I think it was on Pistonheads somewhere when I was reading up on 993C4S. ... I am not gonna complain if it's the lower number ...!!

Cheers. ..

I am somewhat confused by collectability - is it based on scarcity - rarity or desirability ?
i say this a there a LOT more 993 Turbos around in terms of produced cars than the 4S
an overlooked low volume model imo.

That is an interesting point. I have never driven a 993 Turbo, so I can't comment.

However, in comparison to my manual 996 turbo (X50), I find the 993 C4S a great car to drive. The power is much more linear, and in some ways, a more fun car. I still find my X50 awesome, so I feel I have the best
of both worlds.

One would think the rarity of the C4S would make it more desirable, and I think it will, in time.

Rarity only becomes relavent in relation to the level of desirability. You can have a very rare car with low disirabilty and it will be worth diddly squat.

Rare and desirable equals valuable but constrained by what else you could buy instead at that value.

Not strictly true Ian.
In classic Porsche terms, those models that were originally least desirable are the models which are last to go up in perceived value when the values of their more sought after brethren have gone stratospheric, taking them out of the reach of many enthusiasts.
You've seen it happen with all early 911s on the back of 2.7RS and 2.4S prices, and it's happening now with 930 targas and cabriolets....... and don't even mention 964s, which at one point not so long ago seemed to be almost unsaleable - look at them now!

True John and desirability can go up and down. All aircooled are currently very up desirable wise. I wonder where they will be at the end of 2015.
