5 Beeps ....

Just started the car and had 5 Beeps from Dash area ???? any ideas please, Also, the Oil Measurement routine on the dashboard seems to vary a lot in the time it ascribes to doing the check, sometimes a few seconds and today wanted 4 miinutes 43 seconds .... Is this a porsche trait ?

sorry can't help, but does not sound right, still trying to learn how to use all my computer related devices after 2 months of ownership.

I know this is going to sound stupid but do you have PCM with a sim in the tray? if so check to see if you have received a text! RB

The time it needs to do the oil check does vary. I think if you've recently turned it off, you get a larger value - presumably the time it thinks it will take for the oil to drain back down into the sump.

As Martyn says, it will depend on the drain time required to get an accurate reading. First thing in the morning, before starting, it should be 5 seconds, and when it is completely up to temperature it should be fairly quick too. (Excepting Turbos & GT3's which are dry-sump, and need to be hot with the engine running to get a reading). As for the beeps, what year is your car? If it is a facelift model, are there any messages in the 'check' menu? If not, then I have no idea, but unless it does it again, or you get a warning message, I wouldn't worry about it.

On the M.96 Carrera engines there is a reservoir in the sump which carries the oil, so they aren't strictly dry sump in the way that Turbo and GT3 engines are, which have a 'dry' crankcase with an external oil tank.

No further re-occurances of strange beeping, and apparantly my Indi tells me that there can be a big variation in Oil Check times, not for any real reason, just that it happens from time to time in a Porsche !!!!!!!!!!!! A Quirk. Out of interest how much oil do they use, I have come from being an Audi Owner, which drank the Mobile 1 approx 1000 miles per litre .... So far not topped up the oil and done nearly 2000 miles.

w852dh1 ..... Must be the colour then, my Cab is also Guards Red but with Black. Thanks for info, I look forward to many miles of not having to top up oil. FYI, Just had some anti-leaves grills fitted to front radiator areas, done in Gloss Black Powdercoated Aluminium, and fitted by Parrs at Crawley, Sussex. Look great, and hopefully will lengthen life of Radiators. Sorry a bit off topic that.

Hi Image - check out my post and photo in "Leaves" FYI my 2002 with 62k uses about a litre of Mobil 1 every 2000 miles.
